Please explain to me what this 'unprepaired to compete' stuff is. I don't bye it. I bet if you ask any player or coach before any game, they wouldn't say, "I'm not sure about todays game because we are unprepaired to compete." I don't think that is why we lost today. There were many other factors.

I just mean they weren't ready to go. Not in terms of effort, but in terms of the mental preparation and focus you need to win a college football game. You don't see that many unforced errors from a team that's ready to go.

We didn't play four quarters of football. We were fundamentally unsound in the kicking game, pass-pro, run-blocking, tackling, gap-coverage, pass coverage, the option game, run decisions, concentration and execution. Our coaches didn't stick with what worked, they were unable to gameplan a scheme to get our defense off the field, they didn't have an effective offensive scheme designed to attack the weaknesses of the defense, and they failed to build depth by bringing in our backups when the game had been decided.

How would you describe that? To me, that means "100% unprepared to compete."

Which phase of the game did you think we were fully prepared to compete in?

Who was the genius who decided to go for the block? We were going to field the punt at mid-field, and probably take it to their 35. But, no, some genius said, "Go for the block." In the thousands of football games I have watched, I have seen a team block a punt when it tried to about .00001% of the time. The risk/reward ratio is so wide that it is not worth the risk. There was no way that we should have even attempted to block that punt.

Anyone ever tell you your hindsight is right at 20/20?

This should not have been a hindsight 20/20 decision. Prior to the snap, they should have thought solely about containing. It's a no-brainer. I'm not furious or going to demand somebody's firing, I'm just saying that it was an amateur mistake. The most likely outcome of attempting the block occurred. We should not have even tried.

Stop Posting. We were down 2 scores, our offense, defense, and special teams were playing terribly. A punt block could have been the only thing that might have kept us in the game. Don't fault the kid for going for it and getting a really ticky-tack penalty.

I hear what you're saying know. I think we are always "prepared" to compete, but I agree that we did not "compete" very well today, if that makes sense. I guess I'm looking at it a little different. Now, time for a pint or two. :wasted

You would've been singing his praises had he blocked that. He was damn close and we absolutely needed a spark at that point. Penalty was BS.

Hindsight is most definitely 20/20 in this situation. He blocks it and you think he's a hero, he runs into the kicker and he's all of the sudden an idiot. Right.

Or, in my case, a bottle-and-a-half of wine. One domestic, a white that I finished off from last night, and the other an Italian, a chianti that should pair decently with the lasagna.

my concern: maybe you're right...maybe the coaches don't realize when they are un-prepared. clearly we've been lost in serveral games this year, and the coaching has been embarassing at times. I've always liked Bo, but this is ridiculous.
