***The Nebraska Defense - Blackshirts 2022***

NU’s defense — the proverbial son who ate his vegetables and did his homework the last two seasons — has some depth-building to do in spring camp.

Defensive coordinator Eric Chinander is still looking for bodies to add on the defensive line. In January, he told The World-Herald the Huskers had a few targets it was trying to land. One of them was Nesta Jade Silvera, the Miami transfer who landed at Arizona State. NU will continue looking to add linemen and pass rushers when it takes its next dip into the transfer portal later this spring.

But Nebraska revamped its defensive secondary already, with position coach Travis Fisher adding transfers Tommi Hill (Arizona State) and Omar Brown (Northern Iowa) and junior college transfers DeShon Singleton and Javier Morton. NU’s goal is to blend those four into the returning players and come out with five defensive backs who can be used interchangeably in the scheme Chinander used for much of 2021.

I'm pretty worried about defense last year I don't think the defense was that great. Ok yes; but if you want to be great or even very good we got to start forcing some more turnovers

Dline recruiting under Tuioti was absolutely awful. He didn't recruit anyone on the two deep last year and it doesn't look like he brought anyone in that will be a contributing factor going forward either.

Thankfully Dawson brought in some talent before he went to the NFL and is back but they are gonna have to find some guys quickly because the Dline is super thin.  We really needed to get the Murphy brothers that picked ucla.

We have a few guys like Ty Robinson and Casey Rodgers that Dawson brought in before he left in 18 (and maybe Nash Huntmacher who Ryan Held brought in) but behind that it's a bunch of older guys who have never cracked the two deep or younger guys that haven't seen the field. Right now I am not sure we have an 8 man rotation that isn't going to get rolled over, let alone quality depth to fill in when injuries hit.
