The Nebraska Treatment (a plea from a Buckeye fan)

To my fellow Buckeyes:

For any of you who'll be in Columbus this weekend, I'd like to ask you a favor. It's nothing extraordinary, and may not be challenging or even anything different from normal for some of you, but it may be a radically different way of approaching game day for others. I challenge you to do it just the same.

I challenge you to offer our guests the Nebraska Treatment.

Maybe you immediately came up with some double entendre for that phrase (I'd love to hear it), or maybe you thought of those obnoxious signs at Nebraska's Memorial Stadium pronouncing themselves the "greatest fans in college football." I'm referring more to the signs. As annoying as they are, here's the thing: in my experience, they're true. Last October 7, four roommates and piled into a sedan at 3:00 AM and drove fourteen hours from Columbus to Lincoln and had a great weekend, including possibly the best gameday experience of our lives (let's forget the second half of the game).

We got into town Friday night, and while walking around the stadium, we were approached by two beautiful college girls who immediately knew we were out-of-towners (something about the Buckeyes necklaces we were wearing) and not only gave us their names and numbers, but told us exactly where we could find a party "with lots of hot girls who'll be good to you."
next time i go to a husker game, i am wearing buckeye gear.

My guess on this one is one of two things:

1. The dudes were so trashed out of their gourds, they mistook "two beautiful college girls" for two stadium crew staff members who merely directed them to the nearest exit

or

2. They really were two beautiful college girls who trolled the sh!t out of them by giving them directions to "The Q."

I think they started to stretch their story

that is funny. everything in the post is funny. as to #1: maybe they gave them their name and badge number? (i am seriously laughing out loud here in my office).

I personally gave tours of Memorial Stadium, including on the field, to about 15-20 Buckeye fans. I got a couple of guys from Buckeye Planet (the main/best OSU forum) into a tailgate thrown by a friend, and we sat around having beers, discussing the game. It was loads of fun. They were pretty good folks.

I've heard Columbus can be only slightly less volatile than Madison, but I think the huge difference here is that many, many Buckeyes fans came out to Lincoln last year, and pretty much every one of them came away astounded by how well they were treated. I think they're going to do their best to make us feel at home in C-Bus. Don't get me wrong - there will be pockets of "hooligans" and asshattery, and places where it's best to let the Buckeyes be the Buckeyes (like Woodruff Ave on campus, where police have more than once broken up parties, sometimes violently).

I would be astounded to hear reports of our fans being treated badly. The Buckeyes I've met have been great people. I'm envious of you folks going to Columbus.

I always like hearing these stories. Good to know that so many of our fans know the meaning of hospitality - and actually show it too.

Buckeyeplanet is not that great, imo. The way their board set up is confusing as sh#t. They have one thread to talk about everything and a million threads discussing people.

It's no HuskerBoard, that's for sure. And there's this guy, Muck, who likes to follow me around all the time. It's kinda cute, but a little creepy.

But the folks there, minus the inevitable douchebags, are pretty cool. I enjoy it - it's by far my favorite Big Ten forum.

@11W

Ohio State is asking fans to wear Scarlet Saturday night for the Nebraska game. You, too Cornhusker fans.

I'm sure we could make that happen.

I took my dad to the OSU game last year and all the buck fans in our section were great. we chatted with a group of osu fans outside the stadium before the game and took pics of each other by the TO statue. they were very friendly and genuinely happy to have N in the B1G. best traveling fans I have run across; bar none.

That tune will change if we beat em 7,8,9,10 times in a row! Which is the plan! :thumbs

This "Shoe" will be rocking Saturday Night!!!!

You will have a warm welcome from the Ohio State fans, your not wearing blue and gold with a large M on your shirt. Beside, everyone is super excited that you are now part of the B1G family!

I have always said that without the other team's fans a great deal of the fun would be erased from game.
