The next 4 - 5 games

The Huskers can still have a successfull season. they can still claim the north division, play for the conf. title and if they win that game play in a BCS bowl game. So the world did not end because of this loss.

How do we call North Championship by beating Troy and Nicholls and losing to OKIE a successful season? Geeez - this team is simply not Tom's team. It is not worthy of the same praise we used to get. Until we schedule and beat real teams - tough and easy - we cannot get the love. Look at our pathetic record! We have beaten no one of the winning variety. How can people respect us when we only beat the Troys of the world, and then point to our receord and tell everyone how good we are. Only real games mean something, and in real games, we are 0 -3....Sad.
Problem is, the big name teams don't want to schedule tough non-conference games. They want the easier mid-major or 1-AA teams to play prior to entering conference play. And those teams want/need the money the big name schools shell out.
Rome was not built in a day and neither were the 94,95 and 97 Huskers.

The AD sets the non conference games, and the head coach can have influence there. The Big12 office sets the conference games, and the schools have absolutly no imput. We have a big name opponent every year through about 2017 lined up. ANd face it, most teams dont want to play tough opponents in non-conference, making it hard to schedual them.

People need to stop basing everything on the 94-97 run. The people who have Deified Osborne forget the 20 years before 94.

Easy. You get win the north, you get the chance to play for a BCS bowl. Pretty simple really

Yup, he retired in 97/98. Why would it be his team?

a) Most games are decided years in advance and we, like everyone else, plug the holes with typically one 1-AA team and a few 1-A teams. Do you think we thought USC would be that good when the game was scheduled? Hell, Texas played North Texas, Rice and Sam Houston State!

B) Kind of hard to control who you play in your conference, unless you want to change conferences which is a dumb idea.

Only real games mean something, and in real games, we are 0 -3....Sad.
Kinda like Tom in the early 90's huh? Oh how quickly ye forget.

My point is: I don't care who schedules OOC or how it is scheduled - the point is, we shouldn't get so surprised that we cant's win good games when we really aren't good enough to win good games - It always amazes me that, when we beat Troy, we talk about being highly ranked, and then, when we lose to a quality team, we wonder why we lost after believing we were so good based upon our record. We never seem to realize our record is only good when we play poor teams.

So, we might be a little more humble and a little more realistic about the team rankings and the team quality when looking at the overall record, and perhaps discount the meaning of beating Troy, and recognize that a team that cannot beat a ranked opponent, or even a good unranked opponent, deserves no real praise - and if we accept winning the North as a great goal - particularly in this awful condition - well, like I said - our standards have really been lowered.......real powerhouse football is something (and WAS something) to be proud of. Our boys are far from powerhouse until we beat the tough guys. I just can't get too excited about putting the hurt on Nichols.....

Just a few observations about this team. This team has the potential to play with anyone, we've seen it with Texas and USC. It really depends what Nebraska Team shows up. This game had the good Nebraska Team for 1.5 quarters, a so-so team for a 1.5 quarters and the team that played Kansas for a quarter at the end. Okie State is a good football team, much better then their record reflects and I believe that Texas will have a tough time beating them this year. Our issues seem to revolve around consistancy and not whether we're good enough, we are good enough when we play well. Looking ahead, we can beat the remaining teams and we can beat Texas in the Big 12 Championship. For those of you who don't remember, Nebraska used to lose at least once a year to a team that they should have beat, it was hard to swallow then and it is so today, 94,95 & 97 teams being the exception, Reminder: 1996 19-0 loss to Arizona State anyone? Just keeping things in perspective.

Our Goals are still ahead :box

If we play to our full potential we can beat any team on the rest of our schedule. That is the thing that needs to happen. Play to their full potential. Let' see what team shows up on Saturday.

do you have any idea what you are talking about? Okie State is one of the most underrated college teams in the nation. We are in a rebuilding stage from the crap that Solich left us with? and how can you say only big games count? You lose to one team lets say we would have lost to Troy and we would have been done for the season. We lose to Texas nothing happens. My point is just dont give up. We have a respectable record and are near the top of the Big 12 (as bad as it is) and our record is fairly decent. Just wait a couple years until we get these thing straightened out

You kinda made my point - yes, you must beat Troy of course. If you lose, you really ought to hang it up. But you get beat by Texas, then its time to admit you aren't as good as the wins and loss record indicates. Measured by true challenges - we're 0 and 3.

Yes, I agree, let's wait until this all washes out in a few years - but it will never be the same - Never.

It would just be nice if we had the class to lose without so many excuses, and recognize hat we are no longer part of the elite - we were lucky to be ranked after defeating no one of any strength - remember what pride does to a team? - look back no further than CU on that awful day when things fell apart. We went from dominant to dominated!

Now our war cry is how many championships we used to win - we need to get out of the past and win now - now we aren't too good. Now, we are 0 - 3. Now we should be a little humble until we rise again, if ever.
