Heard from a guy who, heard from a guy that the option has made a return to Tom Osborne field. They have been running it on short yardage. Any one have any word on this.

Wow. If it's true that's real interesting. I sure as hell didn't expect it, ever.

Although I would have thought we would have heard something about it by now.

No, DaveH I can actually say the big K is right. They have been running it out of a single back. Also have been seeing some shotgun shovel pass.

But to get back to the option, it's purpose is to get some quick yards. No FB, just a sprint option.

I'll be damned.

I wonder if it is a play that will be used much? I like that they are kinda expanding their "horizons" a bit..

Depends if it works....If they don't need to use it they wont. If they get the desired results, you might see it three times in a game. There not going to live and die with it. They may go two - three games without seeing it. We may go the entire year without seeing it.

I think that the shovel pass will be a great play to take advantage of he size and speed of Ross and Lucky.
Ross 's size is an advantage in that he can always hide behind everyone once he gets the shovel, but he' is small and thus small to find to get the shovel too.

All of these plays will work if the completion percentage in the passing game is 60-65%. Misdirection plays are good for some sizable gains a few times a game if the rest of the offense is being run well.

Oklahoma a few years back ran an option a couple of times a game. They seem to get positive yards from it. Once White tore up his leg they stopped using it.

If either Daily, Beck, or Gantz is the guy, we may see it two times a game. Taylor may not have the running ability to operate it right, unless Eric the Red or someone else knows something otherwise.

I agree, this is a great play and the RB position is the only position we are sure we are going to be good at. The rest of the guys look good, but ross has proved it.

Huh...how about that?

I think that's pretty cool. If it's in the playbook and they show signs of it on tape, defenses have to prepare for it, so even if it's only once or twice a game, it has already made them tougher to defend. :)

Hope springs eternal!

IRISH!
