one of the big knocks against pelini coming in was that he couldnt stop the big time offenses, and that his D folded in big games. one year in this looked legit.... we got lit up by MU, KU, and OU. This year I would say he has answered any and all questions about his big game performance. while our offense did struggle in big games, our D did not. we faced several good O's and really the only team that didnt get dominated was Tech..... and even that game our D really played pretty well.

now if only he could fix our Offense..........

maybe his defensive prowess has become so powerful that he cannot control it from affecting every offense in the stadium... he's like an out of control defensive wizard, his spells are too powerful for even his own 'O' to overcome. :dunno

I lol'd.

I think the offensive problems were a loss of skill position players and injuries/depth issues along the line. I'm not ready to run the coaches out of town because one bad year and will give them the benefit of the doubt. I don't want this to become a revolving door program for coaches.

I'm not either... but it is troubling that our offense has gotten as bad as our defense was 2 years ago. yes injuries hurt us, but to me its more that that..... we get to many defensive penalties, and in general I think our offense lacks that fire and the confidence that the D has.... esp Taylor. maybe that just who the players are, maybe thats coaching..... I'm certainly not close enough to the situation to know. I just hope the fix the problem whatever it is.

actually I thought the knock on him was pure dual threat QB's. To which my response was, those guys kill everyone. Like, especially that year, people pointed to LSU's game against Kentucky.

could be... I have never heard that myself. I am refering to a thread form just after he was hired.... it might actually be in rumorville... I will have to look

The penalties were very frustrating to watch, but it did seem like we were playing with a patchwork offensive line where most of the year guys played hurt. I do hope the coaches get the issues somewhat figured out. I also hope that the bowl practices help our offense as much as it did our defense last year.

Maybe 3rd year will be the charm?

1st year - Defense struggled

2nd year - Offense struggled

3rd year - ????

I'm happy with how quickly he's turned the D around though. Now it's the O's turn.

Some thoughts on the offense...

Linemen that big should be able to push someone around. Ours cant, I dont know if its an issue of needing more time the the weight room(Rob Zetescka seems to think it is) or bad coaching from Cotton(I worked with a guy who played for Cotton elsewhere and never had a good thing to say about his coaching ability)

Is it our WRs or the QB? Seems to me that other than Gillylen, the other guys managed to catch things when Ganz threw the ball at them. Can't say as I am impressed with Gilmore as so many other schools seem to do more with less.

At QB I'm going to say something close to blasphemy. Maybe Taylor and Ganz were actually good products of Callahan. With the Guys we have who have only been with Watson, once again I see a lot more elsewhere with a lot less.

Maybe Lee just sucks at quarterback. Maybe it's not Watson's fault at all, maybe we just got a guy who doesn't cut it. I have no idea if that's the truth or not, I guess we'll see next year the changes we make and how it affects the offense. It's kind of early to make judgments about the O with such a young team. If we're having problems next year still we will better be able to pinpoint exactly what is wrong. Let's just hope someone develops in the offseason as a leader at Quarterback.

yeah im just working with memory, may have been on one of the radio shows, too. I remember people talking about that one UK qb and ell roberson.

Look what he did With SUH in 2 years, Think about what it will be like when he has 2 let alone 3-11 SUH Caliber Players......
while i agree, I personally am thinking you don't see Suh caliber players all the time, might be like a once in a decade thing.
