Top 10 Running Backs in the Big 12

4. Roy Helu Jr., Nebraska
A shoulder injury suffered late in a win over Missouri limited Helu at times last season, but he still managed to be one of just four backs in the Big 12 to top 1,000 yards. Helu Jr. surrendered carries late to star freshman Rex Burkhead, but he should get plenty of touches in 2010 behind the conference's best offensive line.
I think Helu is in a good spot there, but I'm not sure why Ubben thinks we will have the best offensive line in the Big 12. Yeah, we return four of five starters, but a lot of those guys (even when healthy) didn't have great play. I'm curious as to his justification for this.

What say you?

I think I'd put Helu in that 3 spot ahead of the Clone's Robinson.

Interesting that UT has nobody in the top 10. Brown can get any Texas recruit he wants. He just can't always predict success.

by seasons end, Tre Newton will be up there if he stays healthy.

Maybe. That's a big IF. One more concussion and Trey Newton’s career may be done before it gets off the ground.

That may be. Personally I think Texas will scrap this whole pro set business by halftime of the RRR, if not before.

And I also would take a healthy Helu over Robinson.

I think I'd put him at 10 right now. and no I'm not a Helu hater, I like the guy, but those are some good runningbacks

Even if you're not a hater, even I think that's a little low. He's definitely one of the top six backs in the Big 12, but anything higher than where he is would be a bad evaluation.

Roy has had some magical runs in the past couple of years. I believe in his talent, I'm just concerned about his durability. The guy is tough as nails, especially when you remember he played several plays in that Missouri game with what some were calling a separated shoulder. Whatever the injury, he played tough for several games even though he was clearly not at 100%.

A healthy Roy Helu belongs in the top three of this list, and possibly even atop it. Roy isn't a guy I'd want to have to account for as a D Coordinator.

Agreed.

Other than the durability issue, my only qualm with Roy from last year was the inability to reach the end zone. He had huge games against VaTech and Oklahoma yet failed to reach the end zone in both of those games. I'm hoping that he gets better opportunities this year.

if roy has another season like last years he is only diserving of being #3...but if he stays healthy all the way through the season I think he can beat out thomas as #1
