To decide the very best of the Big Ten era, we considered their position — no kickers or punters are on the list — overall excellence, consistency, how they played in Big Ten games (over less important games against middling nonconference foes) and whether they were a part of the best teams in the Big Ten era.

That last piece gives a slight edge, for now, to the 2012 team, which won the Big Ten Legends Division and at least played in a conference title game, even if that game was a blowout loss.

Interesting how many players on that list were scoffed at if not outright ridiculed by a decent amount of fans during their time here.

This list is exactly why Nebraska hasn't won a big 10 title
Eh. Not exactly sure about that. 15 of those guys played in the NFL. Two are quarterbacks. The other three are Steinkuhler, Evans and Westerkamp.

I'd say there are several other factors ranking ahead of the guys on that list as reasons why.

Ok a lot of guys play in the NFL? Could you imagine the players from Ohio st? Wisconsin? Michigan? Hell Iowa would have better players?

Yeah, I'm sure they've had some better players. That doesn't mean they can't be beat. Michigan hasn't won a title since we've been in the conference either - they haven't even won their division. Ohio State has won one title. There's more to it than just having the best players.

Agree to disagree. Michigan has been to 2 or 3 BCS games? Ohio state playoffs and national title? Michigan State? Playoffs big 10 title. All those teams have had better players then Nebraska. Great players make a difference? Look at what David did for that defense in 2 years?
