247: OL Update

Some good stuff here. Highlights the high snap issue that a few people were on top of this past game.

247: LB Update

This one about LBs. Impressive work by Bray there. On Newby and his breakout:

Hes come such a long way, Bray said. When we first got here he just had his hand in the ground and we were kind of told thats all he could do. So hes really grown a lot in understanding how to play the position and his coverage is improving tremendously since the day he got here."
Rivals Free Tuesday Update

***Langsdorf agreed with head coach Mike Riley and said Terrell Newby would be the feature running back from here on out. He said it was important to have that bell cow at running back, but also said they would continue to sub in some other backs to keep Newby fresh and for some situational plays.
Some good stuff there from Langsdorf, critiquing his own playcalling. A look at the backup situation at OG. Stevenson KR/ST only.

Newbys the feature back unless we play illinois then who the F knows. Maybe adam taylor gets 12 carries this week. Why the f not.

Yeah they said we'd see a lot of Ozigbo and Jano against Wisconsin then Cross and Newby got the most carries. So I'm with you, who knows what we get this Saturday at running back

I've seen Newby go all out to pick up blitzes that allowed Tommy to throw on time. Or at least have an extra second to throw. Other times he may have whiffed or was run over. I'm hoping these talented backs can pick up that part of the game. Makes it easy on a defense to attack if they see a certain back come in, knowing ahead of time that he's never in for pass protection. To a certain degree Newby can run, catch or pass protect.

I'm ok with Newby to a point. But I like Jano and Ozigbo better. Still would like to see what Stevenson can do. Even though they mention ST/KR only. Time will tell if that holds up.

He may be the best blocker but he's a worse "running" back than Ozigbo and Wilbon by far. But if all that Langsley* want in a running back is blocking, why not put a 6th OL back there instead of a RB? I mean does anyone care if Fournette can pass pro when the kid is on pace to rack up 2,500 yards this season?

*Langsdorf + Riley = Langsley

Would they care if instead of being on pace to hit 2500 yards he was on pace to hit 1000? I'm guessing so. But I suspect LSU's coaches care about Fournette's pass blocking even now at the pace he is on. In any case, we don't have a Fournette. We probably have what amounts to a 1000-yard back. Maybe.

I'm sure they care. But it's not that big of a deal. They are averaging three times the number of rushing yards as they are passing. And they haven't had a decent QB in years.
