Yesterday the two biggest first round upsets in history of college basketball. What a freaky day. Must've been the sunspots or something.

Which was the bigger upset MU or Duke losing to teams who just won their first tournament game ever?

I say Duke, but are they a young team? I don't know.

PS - on the first tournament win - too bad NU wasn't in at a 15th seed.

Duke sounds like a bigger upset because of their name, but Missouri was the higher ranked team. They were probably the next in line to get a #1 seed.

Was Chaminade over Ralph Sampson's UVa a bigger upset, even though it wasn't in the NCAA tourney?

I know it was tongue-in-cheek, but Nebraska would never get in as a 15th seed. Those are going to be the small conference champions. At large teams seem to be no lower than around #12 seeds.

Here are some more big time upsets not necessairly 1st round...

1983 - Jimmy V's UNC over Houston w/ Akeem Olajuwan and Clyde Drexler 54-52 Nat. Champs.

1985 - Villanova over Georgetown w/ Patrick Ewing 66-64 Nat. Champs.

1992 - Arizonna lost to East Tennessee 87-80.

1993 - Arizonna lost to Santa Clara 64-61.

1995 - Arizonna lost to Miami of Ohio 71-62.

1996 - UCLA lost to Princeton 43-41.

I was at the Missouri game as one of the 14,000 cheering against M-I-Z-Z-O-U-T. Probably the most fun I've had at a college BB game. Norfolk St.'s cheerleaders and band were of a variety not often seen in these parts - the band got a standing ovation when they left the arena.

Too bad Norfolk couldn't keep it going.
