Two-Quarterback System in the Works?

Six strong takes as fall camp gathers steam:
*Zac Lee’s back in the Nebraska quarterback race, and that’s a good thing, but don’t read too much into the comments of wide receivers who, after all, like to catch passes, and probably have the best chance of doing that with No. 5. If you asked Lee, Cody Green and Taylor Martinez to throw 50 passes of all varieties, Lee, with his training and background, wins that battle, even after elbow surgery.

Would NU run that offense in 2010 if Lee’s performance is too uneven to pull it off? No. And 40 passes per game isn’t the eventual direction of the Huskers’ attack anyhow.

Offensive coordinator Shawn Watson left the door open to using two quarterbacks “if it’s one tweaked toward talent and tweaked toward a special situation.”

“I’d be willing to think outside the box,” said Watson, who is nothing if not flexible.

Now - which of the three quarterbacks would most likely have a series of packages tailored to their skills?

I maybe the only one but..... I will be surprised in Martinez doesnt take some meaningful snaps this season at QB. He brings another dimension to our offense. Plus we can line him up at receiver and do bunch of different things running and throwing.

This sounds to me like the stuff that's just designed to grab attention (it was also in a different a day or two ago)...

People have been saying all along Martinez will get a set of plays worked in for him from the wildcat. Unfortunately that won't get an ESPN Insider feature the same way 'Two-QB system' will. Most likely, someone just asked Watson the question and he shrugged and said "Yes, I'd be open to that."

One downside is that having a true 2 QB system disrupts rhythm. Sounds like that's not what we are going for though.

I dont like the idea of a 2 QB offense. Id like to see one of them step up and win it in the next month. It will be more beneficial as a whole if we have a solidified starter. The center/qb exchange would be set, and the rbs would be used to the handoffs, the WRs knowing when to expect balls, and the oline reacting to cadence.

I do think CG will see playing time this year, and Tmart will have some designed packages to utilize his feet and maybe a few suprise throws.

I like Lee this year. CG and TM can battle it out next year, but we'll see.

The only way I'd like a 2 QB system is if we have a starter and use Martinez's running ability some but a two QB system of Green and Lee would only make us worse.

Agreed the only type of 2 qb system that would work would be one like florida ran about 4 years ago, Leak was the starter Tebow came in in special situations, I think that is similar to that you described if it is I'm on board

Don't forget LSU also ran a 2 qb system in Pelini's last year there. Matt Flynn and Ryan Perrilloux did a pretty good job too if I remember...

I could see T-Mart or Green coming in for the Wildcat with the possibility of a slight twist where they fake the run and toss it down field.

The defense has the "Peso" why can't the offense have the "Centavo"

This

TMart is a playmaker and needs to be on the field.

we don't need a "two qb system". the set that people talk about for T-Mart would be most likely some kind of wildcat, well REX can handle the wildcat just fine. we just need an offense that can win field position, control the ball, and score a few touchdowns.

TMart sure looks like a playmaker and we REALLY, REALLY need playmakers. I seriously doubt Bo wants another year of 3 & outs vs the BigXII. I fully agree TMart needs to be on the field.

I could agree with this statement, but "T-Magic" needs to be on the field, be it at QB, WR, or any position not putting him on the field is a waste of talent.

I agree with plays being made with one QB as the primary runner and another as pocket passer.
