*** UCLA Game Day Thread ***

I've always wanted to put in the prayer thread, "Please, God, cleanse the Official's sensibilities of unfairness, grudges, and biases, and allow a contest between these two teams to be won or lost on merit only."

Hard to tell how good/bad UCLA is.  You certainly cannot go by their record alone. It's just the hand they were dealt. In fact, almost all B1G teams would struggle to win one out of 5 if we are being honest.

UCLA played the following 5 teams in a row and went 0-5.

8-0 Indiana - #13

6-2 LSU - #16

8-0 Oregon - #1

7-0 Penn State - #3

5-3 Minnesota

Minnesota needed the final 2 1/2 minutes of the game for a come from behind win over UCLA.  And Minny also beat USC.  Plus they are favored to beat iLLinois.

UCLA won their last game - scoring 35 at Rutgers and passing for 383 yards.  They can move the ball but lack a rushing game.

UCLA has not scored more than 17 points in any game this year except their game against Rutgers.

Idk, I feel very zen about this game.  I just expect a complete 4 quarter game out of all 3 units.  Not trying to jinx it but this game feels like the one where we put it together and get that bowl eligibility in a comfortable fashion.

Then the next 3 weeks might suck....

Thanks for pointing that out.  I hadn’t followed much of UCLA and that’s a brutal stretch of games to have to play.

All of that is why I’m nervous about this game. Everyone expects us to win. But, they could be way better than their record indicates.

Let’s hope the same team comes out that played OSU.

Headed out shortly for tailgating; let's hope the officials help speed the game up and avoid the forecasted lightning etc...hate to have to play a small portion of the game later in the evening.

We have have the better team. What concerns me is the team seems to have a hard time bringing their own energy. They did against CU due to an entire offseason of talk and the perfect home atmosphere.  They did it against a top 5 opponent last weekend.  But when the game is less exciting, they don't show up ready to kick a$$. Purdue, Rutgers, Indiana, all egg laying and slow starts.  The Illinois atmosphere helped in the first half, then they lost the mojo and folded.

We will never take the next step until the guys can get juiced for a game without it being perfect circumstances or an exciting/top opponent. They need to bring it every week, on their own, and they simply haven't to date.  Whether that is culture, or should fall on Rhule, is the question.  I wonder if that was half of what all the hype videos have been about, for the team and not the fans.

Dabo Swinney coined this phrase about "bring your own guts" saying "I  can't give you guts and I can't give you heart.' And tonight, it was BYOG: bring your own guts.  That mantra has led to a 176-44, 9 ACC championships and 2 NC's....That culture got established and stuck.

I agree with your post.  Team has to be able to hype themselves up and "bring it" every game and every play.  Need to be their own "hype man".  Every team in our final 4 have the ability to beat us.  And I am sure nothing would feel better to them than knowing they were helping NU to not go bowling in 9 years.....UCLA's record was tough.  NU will need to bring the D from the OSU game and the 1st half O from CU.......MUST WIN GAME.
