Unfortunately, we are in for a long year on the Defensive side of the ball

So it is apparent that we are going to get torched again on the Defensive side of the ball.

We are in year 5 and are plagued yet again by inconsistent and poor D-Line play, we get little to no push on the interior of the line and get absolutely torched by the Zone Read.

I fear we are in for another long year which basically means the following:

- An inability to win any big/important game

- Inexplicable losses against teams we should beat (Northwestern)

These two elements have become the hallmark of the Pelini Regime.

I'll give credit where credit is due, our Offense looked freaking awesome and that was one thing that left me pumped up but it is just so frustrating to get out of the gate and immediately be faced with more of the same on Defense. I hope they're able to fix the problems but at this point I have little to no faith in that because this coaching staff has not demonstrated (at any point in the past) that they can fix the problems on the Defensive side of the ball (without Suh on the roster).

If we can't stop Anthony Alford running a basic Zone Read, then how are we going to stop Brett Hundley, Braxton Miller, et. al?

This is what I predict:

UCLA - Loss

Ohio State - Loss

Michigan - Loss

Michigan State - Loss

So there you have it, another 4 loss season. :steam

This thread, full of derp it is.

We played a team with a new coaching staff which means NO game tape AT ALL.

Let's see how we play next week, when we actually have some tape to prepare our defense on.

I thought Alford looked much better running the ball than Hundley.

Braxton Miller, Denard Robinson, Kain Colter. These are the guys that make me nervous.

At this point I'd be shocked if we lost to UCLA or Michigan State. Michigan will still give us trouble, and that game in Columbus is just depressing to think about. Hope we can figure something out by then.

(although i do agree that the defense could use some work and the d-line didn't look good)

Did you watch the UCLA/Rice game. They have a couple of good running backs, that have speed. A q/b that is starting for the first time. Went against a Rice team that isn't going to be that good this season. There defense will not be able to contain our offense, at all. What I watched was their d-line is big and good, but the way our 0-line played this week, they will be good enough to keep Martinez upright for him to have another big game, passing or handing off. The only way they lose this game is if we forfeit.

The other three games you pick us to lose, yeah those do have a chance to be loses for us. Not UCLA.....

GBR!!!

I wonder if Nebraska fans are unique in being the only fanbase who can watch a crushing blowout against a good team--giving up only 13 points on defense--and still think the program apocalypse is coming.

Wake up, junior. This ain't the 90s. You take wins any way you can get them.

To draw conclusions like this off of the first game of the season tells the board a whole lot more about you then it does the state of Husker football. Nothing more to add here other then this is what I expect from a "first post". You have nothing to do with the "spirit of Bob Devaney" ... he would never make this kind of "first post".

Agree. It's the first game. The defensive will need to improve but I temper my concern with the fact that they did play better in the 2nd half vs the first half. They were in nickel the whole game. So Miss has some nice skill players and an experienced Oline.

You think we're gonna lost to Michigan State? Michigan State is, at best, marginally better than 2009 Nebraska on offense. If they lose Bell, they have NO OFFENSE.

Yet another one-off post from a throw-away account bitching about Pelini.

Troll threads get locked. Boom.
