Unwanted Gift

The Sri Lankan species its the largest of asian elephants and since its the largest it most definately eats alot.

Aren't African elephants larger than Asian elephants? If yes then why wouldn't it be an African elephant? Oh yeah, that's doesn't elicit a "yes" or "no" response. Let me rephrase: Doesn't it seem kind of ludicrous if the answer was an Asian elephant if an African elephant is larger than a Asian elephant?

There is also an Indian Elephant. That's it! Since it was an Indian Elephant, the nobleman and King were also Indian. Assuming the widespread Hindu influences, it would be sacreligous to kill or harm the beast once it was given to you as a gift. The nobleman was stuck with it - he couldn't get rid of it simply by killing it. He was the owner and was eternally responsible for the health of the animal. Wouldn't the Indian elephant be considered sacred? ....like the cow?

I was looking for white elephant but close enough.

 

A nobleman was very displeased when he received an expensive gift from the king. Why?

 

The King was the King of Siam, and the gift was a white elephant. The story goes that the King gave the gift of a rare white elephant to those with whom he was displease and wished to ruin. The elephant was very expensive to keep but was sacred and could not be used for work. Also as a royal gift, it could not be disposed of. This was the source of the expression "a white elephant."
