This is why I wanted to win this game even more-so than the Texas game. We have something physical and substantial to retain in this rivalry, and it only seems fit that we are the ones to keep it. Save Missouri's recent success against us when we had an inept coach, Nebraska deserved this given their record against Missouri. It feels good to be keeping this indefinitely.

In fact, I say we enshrine this bad boy and never put it up for changing hands again. It came from one of our frats so dammit it should stay with us!

Amen. For those who dont know about the nebraska - missouri victory Bell.

The Victory Bell (sometimes known as the Missouri-Nebraska bell) was awarded to the winner of the Nebraska and Missouri football game annually.[12] The exchange was organized by the Innocents Society of Nebraska and QEBH of Missouri.[13][14]

The tradition dated back to 1892 when these teams first met, when the bell was taken from a church in Seward, Nebraska by members of Nebraska fraternities Phi Delta Theta and Delta Tau Delta. At the time, the members of the two fraternities occupied the same house. When the two groups moved into separate houses, there was a dispute over who should keep the bell. Annual scholastic or athletic contests were held, with the bell being used as a trophy. This rivalry abated, yet still the ownership of the bell was left in question.

In 1926, the athletic director at Missouri, Chester D. Brewer, suggested an annual award be established for the annual Missouri-Nebraska football game. The bell was selected to be the prize to end the conflict between the fraternities, and an 'M' and an 'N' were engraved on opposite sides of the bell.[15] The exchange was coordinated by the Innocents Society and Missouri’s prestigious Q.E.B.H. Society. Missouri won the first game in 1927 7-6. The scores from the games up through 2005 are engraved on the bell.[13]

With Nebraska's victory over Missouri on October 30, 2010, Nebraska's Memorial Stadium became the final resting place of the Victory Bell.

Buy the way, when looking this up i just saw that this was our 103 meeting with missouri. Kinda surreal that we wont be playing them again in the forseable future. Good luck to you missour next year.

The funniest thing about this bell is that nobody really cared that much about it - in Nebraska, anyway - until this game. Suddenly everyone was talking about keeping the bell forever.

Like most Husker fans, I didn't even know we played for a trophy against any of our Big 8/Big 12 brethren until a year or two ago. I just find it funny how much I and everyone else, who never ever think about this bell, cared so much now.

Probably cause we owned the Tigers for such a long stretch at one point.

I would honestly love to know how many people learned of the bell because of NCAA Football on PlayStation or XBox? Seriously I have a lot of friends that never knew the thing exosted until the video game. Anyone one on here that can admit to this being the same way they found out about the bell?

yup that's how I discovered it. I never saw them show it on tv or mention it at all during the games.

Is there an M on the other side of the victory bell?

Because it would be hilarious to use it with our new series with Michigan. That'd probably tick Missouri off a little bit.

The first time I saw it was yesterday. I didn't know that this was a tradition. Thanks for the little history lesson.
