Warren on Riley: 'He's a pretty ferocious competitor...;

New OWH article on Charlton Warren

(Warren said:) "Maybe the opportunity to come here a year ago was because I would have the opportunity to stay.

That's how I look at things in life. You make the most of what you are given. You don't pout. You don't go negative. And you salute and carry on."
Some of this is old, some of it seems new (at least to me!). Coach Warren was one of my favorite coaches this past year and I'm very glad he has been retained. Seems like a perfect fit.

One thing I also did not know was that Riley isn't just an offense guy. I guess I took that as a given, but he played DB at Alabama, started out as a DC and DBs coach, which is all he had done by the time he was hired by the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in the CFL. And the defensive coach hat is one he continued to wear (in 2002, after his CHargers stint, he was AHC/DB for New Orleans).

I was just coming here to post the article. Great stuff! I've been a fan of Warren since he got here, and this just reinforces that.

One of the reporters mentioned a conversation with Sarkesion out at the Holiday Bowl talkin about Riley. Said somethin to Sark about him being a super nice guy and Sark replyin along the lines "well, that's what it appears" or somethin like that, suggesting his one hell of a hardcore competitor. Osborne was the same way. Always appeared to be so stoic and calm, but you could tell the way the teams played that he was one ruthless SOB. I think Riley could be the same way.

I think that sometimes the quiet ones can be the most deadly competitive.

I think it was obvious Bo cared, but he wore his emotions on his sleeve and sometimes that made him show his hand. HE wasnt cool in the moment.

Riley strikes me as guy who wants to win super bad, but doesnt show it in front of others in order to keep it quiet.

But i am already seeing it with his recruiting style. He is aggressive and seems to trust the guys around him.

Coach Warren was a great guy to keep over. If he could keep just one, i am glad it was Warren.
