Coaches not looking ahead
Wednesday, Sep 17, 2008 - 08:19:29 pm CDT
For those of you wondering if coaches might use this bye week to take a sneak peak at Missouri, the Huskers’ Oct. 4 opponent, forget it.
Nebraska hasn’t even begun looking at Virginia Tech, next week’s foe.
“We’re working against our offense and just trying to get speed on speed,” defensive coordinator Carl Pelini said after Wednesday’s two-hour practice on the grass field.
“We’ve been facing pretty unique spread offenses the last couple of weeks, so it was like trying to re-dial it in with the two tight-end sets we’re seeing against our offense.”
Pelini described the workout as “weird,” saying the team practiced hard but wasn’t sharp mentally.
“The mental aspect wasn’t great,” he said. “But it’s like switching gears again. We’re going against ourselves, a completely different offense we haven’t done a lot of work against.”
This and that: Wyoming athletic director Tom Burman told the Rocky Mountain News that discussions are being held with Nebraska on a multi-year series that could include one game at Invesco Field in Denver. .... Defensive backs Anthony West and Rickey Thenarse practiced Wednesday but wore green no-contact jerseys. ... Nebraska practices today and Friday and will take Saturday off.
