What Is Defensive Success vs Oregon

In your opinion, what would you consider a success for the Blackshirts vs Oregon?

Less than 500 total yards? Less that 40 points? 3 or more TOs? Just getting a W?

2016 Oregon Offense vs UC-Davis

251 rushing yards / 6.8 ypc

271 passing yards / 9.0 ypa

522 total yards / 7.8 ypp

53 points

2016 Oregon Offense vs Virginia

662 total yards / 8.3 ypp

44 points

2015 Oregon Offense Average

280 rushing yards / 5.9 ypc

258 passing yards / 9.0 ypa

538 total yards / 7.1 ypp

For completeness

2016 Oregon Offense vs Nebraska

336 rushing yards / 7.1 ypc

146 passing yards / 6.3 ypa

482 total yards / 6.9 ypp

Oregon went for more rushing yards and ypc w/o Freeman, but we came close to limiting their passing yards to 1/2 what they normally get, and knocked almost 1/3 off their ypa. And of course their scoring was down.

Our Secondary has improved dramatically since the first half of last season.

Hope they can keep trending in the right direction.

I haven't read through this entire thread, so maybe others have mentioned this - But I think Kalu and Jones have really stepped up this year.

When you don't really hear their names much...it's a good thing.

Oregon had a passing TD in 80-something straight games before the Blackshirts gave them the goose egg.

If one steps back and looks from a strictly analytical viewpoint, the defense certainly didn't play a great game. However, putting the entire game in context (last season, the last 5 seasons, the 'trend' of the program and etc.), I think one can argue quite confidently that the defense and the entire team played very well! This game was 'a big one' and loomed large on the schedule for a long time. Many would have penciled it in as one of several losses without giving it much more thought. And after giving a bunch of thought, would have still penciled in a loss. Some didn't want to get embarrassed and would have been happy to have kept the game reasonably close.
