When 9 wins a year isn't the whole story.

Blame the pee-wee coaches and high school coaches then. These players should have the fundamentals for tackling down pretty good by the time they reach college.
So you're implying our coaches are poor evaluators of talent then?
I am? Let me ask you this...Our coaches are to blame because guys miss tackles. What do you have to say about them when it came to Lavonte. He very seldom missed tackles?
Missed tackles/assignments has been prevalent throughout the better part of the Pelini era, at least the last 3-4 years. As for Lavonte...maybe his pee-wee/high school/JUCO coaches taught him good fundamentals? I'm just trying to figure out where you're going...you admit they missed tackles frequently and blame it on lower level coaches...which then puts blame on Pelini for recruiting. It's gotta be something, somewhere right?

That's not what you said.

This quote implies that it is delusional to think that we would have been a better team without those injuries. That is just flat out laughable.

Delusions that we would have been a significantly better team without those injuries is another.
"better" - and "significantly better" are two entirely different arguments. Which are you going with? Sounds like you're using "better" to argue against "significantly better" and that's weak.

IMO "better" = not getting manhandled by Iowa, only 3 turnovers against MSU. Still 4 losses.

"Significantly better" = 2+ more wins.

The first, certainly plausible with Long/Martinez healthy. The second...not gonna happen regardless. Did you watch the UCLA/SD games?
You're really reaching to make this argument work.
not really. obviously we are better when healthy. are we better enough to make for a better season? in a meaningful way? doubt it.

Like I said, we might not have been as pathetic as we were...but Martinez/Long do not add another 21 points against Iowa's D. Still a loss. Besides, them being healthy wouldn't have changed anything with the way administration handled Bo's status...and we all know that's what caused us to lose the game. (sarcasm)
He probably doesn't throw 2 picks in our first 2 series which put us in an immediate hole that we never recovered from.

So, missing an All-American guard and a 1st team Big Ten QB had no meaningful impact on the season...

When wins/losses are what ultimately matters...no, no "meaningful" impact. We were still a 4 loss team. Do you think we would have been a 10 win regular season team with them?

Where did I admit that our guys missed tackles frequently? I just stated that if people are going to blame Bo and company for poor tackling, then the other coaches that taught the kids when they were younger should be to blame as much.

As far as your comment about Lavonte's coaches teaching him good fundamentals. It is comical that you say it could be from them doing a good job of teaching him but yet blame Pelini on the other players missing tackles. Doesn't really make sense.

i guess we will never know. but what i do know is that we were not exactly world beaters when we were healthy. unless you think beating wyo. at home by 3 an indication of a good season.

would long have beaten minny for us?

how do you see the season playing out if those two players are healthy? bcs bid, big ten championship? how would it be different in a meaningful way? maybe an iowa win?

Just like MSU were world beaters to start the season?

We knew our defense was suspect to begin the year and thought they would get better as the year went. We knew our offense was key to our success and getting us over the hump until the defense panned out. By the time our defense showed its' potential our offense was in shambles and had already lost us some games.

100% healthy? I think we might have still lost the UCLA game (they didn't even respect the QB run after the 1st 1.5 quarters), and maybe one of the other 3, but I'd guess wins over Iowa and MSU.

No team should really get to play the 'What if we had been 100% healthy and every team we faced had the same injury situation as they originally did' card.

Sure, maybe, what if, but no.
