AG is sitting at #28 in the top 100. He's having a much more productive year than last. I expect him to jump a few spots. Currently there are 13 5 star recruits out there. That number grows as we get closer to signing day - usually ends up around 30 or so. The problem for AG will be that he's sitting at #5 on the running backs list. Only once in the last 10 years has Rivals given 5 stars to more than 3 running backs (2005 - they gave 4 - Lucky was #2).
The only way I see him getting his 5th star is if he moves up the running back list. Malcolm Brown is sitting at #1 - and regardless of production I think we can all assume he's going to stay there. Mike Bellamy is probably the fastest back on the board, but he lacks size. Kenny Hilliard is another pounder like Brown. Isaiah Crowell is similar to AG and has been compared to Marcus Lattimore. Many think he's the best on the board.
From a stats perspective, all of them actually kind of put AG to shame.
Brown had 2200 yards and 33 TDs last year.
Bellamy 2000/29 as a sophomore, 2150/31 as a junior.
Killiard 2400/34 as a sophomore, 2500/32 as a junior.
Crowell 1900/25 as a junior
AG had 2000/27 as a sophomore but fell off to 1100/11 as a junior due to inury. Last I checked he was slightly over 1000 yards on the year with 12 touchdowns. I think that was after 6 games. That puts him on pace to have a similar year to his sophomore year, but it's still not a 35TD season.
My opinion is he'll have an uphill battle to get that 5th star. Isaiah Crowell hasn't committed yet, so he'll probably move up the board as his recruitment heats up. I just don't see AG passing any of these 4 IMO...but I'm hopeful.
