When was the last off season that was this lackluster among fans

Is there any irony in the notation that we are over 150 posts into a thread that questions our interest in Husker FB. If you come to this site day after day and see zero pots, then there might be something to this topic. Otherwise... No worries.

There's a lot of big marquee matchups that I eagerly anticipate. That's my problem. I'm too excited for Illinois, Purdue, Minnesota, Northwestern, Michigan State, sanction riddled Penn State, Iowa, and the inevitable blowout at Michigan.

You really dont fit in here.

The whole concept seems over your head.

Its been awhile since an offseason has been so quiet.

Last year it was Aaron Green transferring, among other things.

The year before that was losing Carl Pelini and wondering if we were gonna get Mark Stoops to coach our defense.

Before that it was our introduction into the Big Ten and if Bubba Starling was gonna play football or take the MLB draft.

Quiet isn't always a bad thing. Nebraska seems to do better when expectations are low or nobody is really talking about them.

As I recall, a lot of people were excited about the possibilities for this year even before last year got going. Maybe the fan base is just sick of waiting for the season to roll around. This might be the calm before the storm.

Last season shouldn't have been a surprise. We were struggle to beat crappy teams. Hell by half time i was rooting for Wisconsin, i wanted them to destory us and hopefully get Bo pissed off enough he would finally start changing some things and demand improvement instead of just talking about it. I don't care about how good our recruiting class is suppose to be and how many studs we brought in because there still is still a transition from high school to college where there are some athletes that were so good in high school but average in college and they can't live up to it. Until Bo can prove he can get over the hump and have breakout seasons then skepticism remains of Bo.

How close was last year to being a completely different season?

Having faced down the possibility of being worse than they were in 2011 after the Ohio State loss, the Huskers string together six straight wins against some good but not great teams, showing all their flaws but managing to pull out exciting wins. They become a team that is never out of it, even when they fall behind early. And entering the Big 10 Championship game, they STILL haven't put together the complete game a team gets to enjoy at least once a season.

At that point, with Ohio State conveniently out of the way, Nebraska is 10 - 2, playing a five loss team they'd beaten before for a spot in the Rose Bowl. At that point, Nebraska is relevant in the national college football conversation. And as long as were talking about being close, they could easily been 11 - 1, as they played a pretty terrible game against UCLA and were still only a couple plays away from winning.

At that point, I don't remember anyone on this board thinking Wisconsin would totally bushwack us. I think we all worried about the game, knew Wisconsin was a lot tougher than their record. But we all knew we were very close to the Rose Bowl and the Top Ten and a new dawn for Husker football.

Amazingly, that was only a few months ago.

2012 felt like three totally different seasons shoved into one. By now we really don't know what to expect, and it's hard to pretend otherwise.

But that's what's going to make this season so much fun.

As far as losing 2 regular season games goes, hell I'll put money on losing 3. It's probably going to happen folks. Lot of youth on that D, and frankly, our offense is probably not going to be this generational juggernaut that it's being talked up to being. And again after such, the sky will fall, the world will end, everyone will crawl out of their shelters and we'll be right back here exactly one year from now having these exact same discussions.

I really think this is the point of the thread. There isn't as much off-season excitement because we know what to expect each year. The program has kind of stalled and isn't advancing the way we felt it was after the '09 or '10 seasons.
So you are expecting us to go 10-4 agan this year? Or are you thinking worse?
I think the schedule sets up really well for Nebraska this year. Still, the defense figures to be pretty bad, and the offensive heroics aren't likely to break the same this year as last...I'd put us in the regular season at 10-2 or 9-3 (If I were betting, losses to UCLA, Michigan, possibly Northwestern), if that gets us to the Big 10 title game again, we'll lose to OSU as well (10-3 or 9-4). I don't want to predict bowls, way too hard to say who the match-up would be.
Just read that UCLA is going to be an 11am kickoff. That's 9am their time... Sucks for UCLA, and makes me reconsider them winning here.

Good post, I am probably in the minority, but I didn't think we were going to win the big10 CCG. Call it a bad feeling or what ever, I just felt too many things were against NU in the game. The team was beat up physically and mentally drained after the win out scenario put up by BP. They were missing their best D-linemen on a very thin D-line. I just didn't feel they had much left in the tank to play a team they had already beat again. If it would have been OSU they were playing I think they would have had a better shot emotionally. Wisky had nothing to lose and had a revenge factor going. They were motivated ready to play and relatively healthy at key positions.

I remember saying it would be a tough game, due to their close play with Ohio State. But did not expect to lose the game, nor the blow out loss. I thought we would win a close fought battle. Wisconsin was a much better team than their win/loss record indicated.

But put the shoe on the other foot, yes we could have been 11-1 very easily, but we certainly could have been 6-6just as easily. That is the bad part, we won games, coming from behind, that most likely we should have dominated. With this team, and staff, we just do not know what to expect. I think most of us have been burnt on lofty expectations, believing the coach speak, and this year are just taking a wait and see attitude. I felt last year was going to be bad. This year, I think we have a better season as far as wins and losses, but not sure the team will be any better than last years. Too many questions on defense to make a sound decision.

I am a huge Taylor fan, have been since his first start, but I am not as convinced about our offense as others seem to be. When we play the tough games, we were hard pressed to keep pace. This year they should be better, and I think we really need them to be.

Still just as excited as always, just lower expectations every year it seems.
