Who else is looking forward to playing UCLA in '12 & '13?

I'm excited because "Golden Boy" has never beaten Nebraska at any level as a player or a coach. I see the trend continuing.

Let's hope it turn out to be another Miami Ray Lewis situation. A big time recruit that almost went here, but instead chose another team (Miami). He then plays against Nebraska and losses and allows TO his first National chapionship game.

It's probably a big reach, but then again we do have QB recruit now that is a relative to TO first National championship QB. No pressure there. Crane :)

The difference being that Owa seems to be quite the character kid and Ray Lewis has been indicted for murder and aggravated assault.

This series is going to be fun. Hopefully the class we signed this year will be motivated to play against him. :snacks:
look what happened to Freeman and Gabbert... being on the wrong side of the ball can have some consequence.

maybe the comparison isnt the best, but the point is people we wanted who chose an inferior school get reminded why they should have been N!
You might want to choose different players next time. Freeman is a starter in the NFL, and he signed a 5 year contract worth 26 million. Do you really think under Clownahan's watchful eye he'd be anywhere even remotely close to where he is now? While it's still a bit early, it appears Gabbert is going to be really good. With the way our offense if evolving, neither of these two QB's would be suited to run it.
B U T...... How have they performed against Nebraska? That my friend is the point. Yes they are good, but...

Yeah that.

As far as freeman in the NFL, yeah he probably would have. He had every measurable the NFL looks for but still wasn't a great winner at kstate for a coach that may have actually been as bad or worse then Callahan.

This always seemed strange to me. While I can't name Freeman's stats, he never seemed like that great of a QB when I watched him on TV. I only watched him play 5 or 6 times, but I was never thinking "Damn, what a QB!" It always seemed to me that pundits would get caught up in his physical features and forget that he just overthrew his receiver by 15 yards. I suppose that if someone is offering him 5 mil a year, he must be doing something right, but does anyone else agree with me here?

Also regarding Freeman not being where he is now if under Callahan, are we forgetting Ron Prince? What did he do?

Edit: I'm a slow typer. Pretty much Redblooded. Pretty much.

People never cease to amaze me. Here is a young man who, properly developed, has an opportunity for a wonderful professional career. After graduation, he very likely could be drafted to play for a team that is 2,000 miles away from home. I don't understand why people would compromise their best chance at learning a trade that is going to very likely have them living far from their family in the end anyway. Is the difference between a short and long plane flight home during college worth the risk of not having a multi-million dollar professional career?

How good would Suh have been if we still had the old coaching staff? With today's decision, the world will never know how good of a college player Owa could have become. I think he made a terrible career mistake that will likely end up costing him millions and maybe even his shot at the NFL.

When we play UCLA, I hope we show them one of those trademark Pelini defensive efforts so the young man can see what he had a chance to be a part of. I hope his mother's nipple was worth it.

I say good luck to Owa. We wanted him, and we STILL do. But let's think about that for a minute. If this kid was so concerned about distance from home bla bla bla, then this is for the best. Last thing we need is another homesicker pissen everything away to crawl back home chris williams and therefore wasting our time and a scholarship. Owa will probably have a decent career cuz he is that talented but i do agree with everyone else when i say, HE WILL NO WAY IN HELL EVER KNOW HIS TRUE POTENTIAL. By the way Neuheisal is a doosh.

Boom, nail on the head. Interesting way of looking at it. Great post.

I agree that he made a bad decision, although I do respect it and understand why he did it. Unfortunately us gray hairs have been around long enough to know that Skippy ain't all that as a coach. I'm not saying that the Pelini Bros. are the only guys in the country who can show him his potential, but I am sayin' that Skippy sure ain't that guy. Trivia: I saw Skippy and Jim Kelly play opposite each other at QB in the USFL.

Ron Prince was a tool and it is arguable whether he was actually a worse coach than Clownahan. However, Prince inherited a team that hadn't had a winning record the prior two years while Clownahan inherited a top 25 team the prior year. Prince beat the #4 ranked Texas Longhorns his first year. How many top 10 teams did Clownahan beat? In fact, Prince was undefeated against Texas during his short tenure at KState.

Now, onto why not being "N" was good for him considering where he is now. I think it's all but common knowledge that few if any 18 year old college freshmen could pick up on Clownahan's playbook. He more than likely would have redshirted in 2006. In 2007, he may or may not have played. Considering how pathetic the 2007 season was, it would have done more harm than good to him more than likely in terms of the NFL had he started. In 2008, we had a totally different coaching staff. I just believe he had a better chance to get where he is today by not coming to Nebraska. The same can be said with Blaine Gabbert. It appears we are moving away from his style. He has a lot better chance to get to the NFL playing for Missouri than he would have had here.

The appeal of this game for me completely surrounds the fact that if things don't change we will be playing Rick Neuheisel in all of his mighty Douchitude! That will be fun!
