Who will be the Walk-on Coordinator?

Doc Sadler
That's actually a pretty good idea.
I'm pretty sure being a head coach of a Div 1 men's basketball team probably pays better and is more in line with what he really wants to do than to be coordinator of walk-ons of a sport he has never coached or scouted.
Barry Collier?
Barry Collier switched to recruiting walk-ons for a football team?
He owes us

Matt Davidson, Jason Peter, Tommie Frazier - all from a bygone era but they could inspire wt some stories

I would go with Lawrence Phillips when he gets out. If other coaches come to talk to our players he could just run them down with his car. Wait has anyone said Scott Frost yet?

I say what about someone like Scott Shanle? Walked on, made the NFL, stuck around in the NFL for awhile. Adam Treu might be another option. They lived it and had success. I'd also like Joel Mackovica (sic?) but I say get someone who did it, had success and can speak to it.

Almost all of these recommendations are guys who don't have any High School coaching experience and/or don't have any relationships with existing High School coaches in Nebraska. They wouldn't be a good fit for the job. Just because someone was a great former player, doesn't mean he's a fit for this job. Just because you played, doesn't mean you can coach or manage a scouting, PR and recruiting operation. Playing is good, but they better have the other skills needed. For those of us that have played and been coached by former "greats"- can attest to that. It doesn't matter what you know as a coach, it matters what you can teach- same goes for managing and recruiting.

Jimmy Williams would be a great choice if going for an established hire from the college ranks.

Matt Turman would be an interesting if not inspired option imo. He's done a pretty good job at Skutt.

I think a former good player that was a walk on can do the job. I am not sure where the coaching aspect needs to come into play. I would assume that if they talked an OL into walking on, Cavanaugh would be coaching him.

And what better recruiting tool would this person have than to show the kids that he walked the walk?

If Turman ever got bored of coaching high school football.... I think he'd be perfect. Don't think he would though.
