A high-risk sexual offender is accused of forcing a 15-year-old girl to have sex with him in a Lincoln hotel this summer, according to court documents.
Ali Tharis, 25, 941 Washington St., was arrested Thursday on suspicion of committing first-degree sexual assault on July 28 or 29.
Tharis, also known as Ali Hacham, has previously been convicted of first degree sexual assault, in 2003, and third degree sexual assault, in 2001.
He was sentenced to two to four years in jail and four years probation on the 2003 conviction. He was sentenced to six months in jail for the 2001 conviction. Tharis’ bail was set at $250,000 for his most recent charge.
Tharis was wearing a GPS ankle monitor at the time of the alleged sexual assault, according to court documents. A parole officer determined that Tharis was at 1140 W. Cornhusker Highway — an Econo Lodge — on the night and early morning the assault allegedly took place.
There, the girl told authorities Tharis sexually assaulted her in her hotel room after a party. The girl, who does not live in Lincoln, alerted Missouri State Highway Patrol on July 30, and turned over biological evidence to investigators. In August, she identified Tharis in a photo lineup.
On Thursday, the Nebraska State Crime Lab reported to Lincoln police that tests on the evidence showed the presence of semen.
Tharis was arrested Thursday afternoon at the Nebraska State Parole Administration office.
