Who truly benefits from college football? Alumni who absurdly judge the quality of their alma mater based on the quality of the football team.

The author answers his own question in the first quote above with the second quote. When alums come back to college they don't sit in on some boring lecture in the business college. Or stop by the chemistry lab to see the new lab equipment. They go to a football game. And when their college team does well, they open their checkbooks. And donations pour in.
