I was hoping Nebraska and Alabama would play at least once to honor the guys from all the games that were played in the '60s and '70s while many are still alive.  Plus I believe Bear Bryant's worst defeat was at the hands of the 'Huskers.

Okay but why would any P5 school be playing an out of conference away game several hundred miles away in November?

The right opponent would help in the AP/BCS standings.  OTOH a playoff basically grants 1 OOC mulligan.
