An interesting paragraph is this: "It's a good thing the Badgers were talking about South Dakota, because no one else was. And they never will after the way UW plowed through its non-conference schedule, winning by 34, 35, 42 and 49 points against a group of hand-picked opponents that fell far short of expectations. UNLV is rebuilding, Oregon State is experiencing a rare down year, Northern Illinois was a disappointment and South Dakota was out of its league."

UNLV is rebuilding from what? The Randall Cunningham years? The time where they were quite adept at cheating at basketball?

I'm also not sure on what dimension where Oregon St has a rare down year. It's the rare good years that I tend to notice more. They're traditionally a middle of the road PAC 12 teams that gets smashy-smashed on national television by teams not named USC.

"Northern Illinois was a disappointment" says everyone after they fill up their car with gas in Dekalb, skips the barbed wire museum and hauls a$$ to Chicago as fast as they can.

"South Dakota was out of it's league". And the sun sets in the West too, guys.

Outside of that, I thought it was a pretty rational column. They're respecting us in the paper at least.

It should be noted that this is only true for the stretch of 94 between Chicago and Milwaukee. That being said, you're right on the money.

 
Hey guys, UW fan here. UW has played UNLV several times over the last couple of decades (and actually lost one at home). The Badger alumni like the trip to Vegas and UNLV liked the number of Badger fans that would buy season tickets just to go to that one game. There were times during this series when UNLV was fairly competent -- John Robinson was their coach for a while. I think that series is done though.

Northern Illinois was in the MAC championship last year, returned nearly all their starters, and hired the UW defensive coordinator as their head coach when their previous coach took the MN job. A lot of us, including me, had that game at Soldier Field circled as a potential trouble spot -- moreso than Ore. St. Don't kid yourself about the MAC -- the top teams in that league would routinely be pretty competitive in the middle tier of B1G teams (in case you didn't know, the MAC has had an agreement to supply non-con games with the B1G for several years). So, the fact that it turned into a major laugher was at least a little bit surprising.

Regardless, none of them compare to the test this Saturday. Looking forward to it.

It is evident that Wiscy's D isn't very quick...they have to be very sound with alignment and their keys when they come to play us...because if they're outta position and not ready for the play, REXY or Martinez will be flying. The closer this game gets to primetime, the more I like our chances of winning. I catched a good portion of the UNLV vs Wiscy game and some of those plays that the quarterback took off on....Martinez would've probably been gone or at least would've ran for probably 30 to 40 yards. Our offensive speed will hurt them as long as we execute.

Thanks for the insight! It looks like NIU is having a serious down year because of their current win/loss record. I agree with your opinion on MAC teams being able to compete...there is talent and solid coaching in that conference.

Also, I have watched 2 of W games on tv this year. I was watching them play OS and turned it, then was shocked they shut them out. I thoght oregeon st was kinda 'winning' that game for awhile.

UNLV pee'd down their leg, and still...they were able to move the ball at times.

Then NIU I thought was outclassed and just not even near the competition, kinda like WYO.

The thing I see is, N seems to be 'tested' whereas W knocked em all over the place, score wise.

Are we really THAT fast? Are we going to be THAT much better w all 3 levels completely healthy? Was W sched really THAT poor? Was our any tougher?

I think we've faced stiffer test's, but even for crap opponents, W steamrolled them. My guess is we'll bring our 'A' game cuz we've been forced to a couple times already and it's looked pretty good. Does W even know what's it's A game is?will it be too late for them by the time they've found out?
