Without question, I would rather be deaf. If you can see, you can still enjoy much of what the rest of the world enjoys. With out site, you have to simply use your world would be closed in to only what you can hear.

I could golf just fine if I was deaf, aside from not hearing people yell "fore" when they shank it across 2 fairways my direction. I think almost everyone would much rather be deaf than blind, our brains are hardwired to do a lot more with visual information than audio information. (And plus, I already can't hear anything below 50 decibels in my right ear anyway for some reason, been that way since childhood)
