Four-Star Recruit
whats the word on some of the "pelini recruits"? baker? compton, fisher, pj smith? i thought at least a couple of those guys would have seen some PT. why havent they for those of u who know more than me? thanks.
What's the point? Everyone bitched when Callahan burned redshirts. Just let them be. We need to see the big picture, not just the here-and-now.whats the word on some of the "pelini recruits"? baker? compton, fisher, pj smith? i thought at least a couple of those guys would have seen some PT. why havent they for those of u who know more than me? thanks.

I don't remember anybody bitching when he burned redshirts, because he rarely did except for special teams. I don't think that is what he was referring to. I remember people bitching that the offense was too difficult and freshman couldn't grasp it in time to see the field right away. What's the point? Everyone bitched when Callahan burned redshirts. Wow, wish I would have read this post completely. At least we agree, right? For the people saying lets be patient with the Frosh, I ask did you watch Alabama? They have no problem playing them.
As far as the big picture goes wouldn't it help if more of the guys that are the "future" go to play if the "here and now" guys don't cut it. Look at Miami they play so many Frosh and sure they are going to take their lumps this year but I'm telling you in 2 year they are going to be money.
Stoops, Carroll, Meyer, Saban, Miles, Tressel, Richt, don't have problems playing the young guys so why should we?

They all have much better freshman to play. Their recruits are more developed by the nature of the caliber of player they are. Every school you mentioned has a bunch of Blue Chip kids who are farther along than the typical recruit (the likes of which NU gets). Simply put, we do not land enough recruits who are capable of playing as freshman --- the top programs do.For the people saying lets be patient with the Frosh, I ask did you watch Alabama? thanks for answering my original question.Fisher has seen PT. Baker's in line for a redshirt, and I'd say PJ Smith just isn't ready to play - Pelini's staff reportedly told safety visitors this past week that they wouldn't be coming here to redshirt just because we're so short of depth.
He hasn't play since the first game and that was only on kickoff coverage. So he really hasn't seen any good PT.thanks for answering my original question.Fisher has seen PT.
Lets take a look at those programs, they are all in, or near, the top 10 and fighting for a national title. They play freshmen because they have a chance to win it all this year. In 3-4 years if we get back on track and are in the top 10 and bringing in top 10 recruiting classes like those you mentioned above, you will see more true freshman playing. Until then there really isn't a reason to.What's the point? Everyone bitched when Callahan burned redshirts. Just let them be. If Pete Carroll, Mack Brownl, Bob Stoops, Nick Saben, Urban Meyer, and Les Miles think it works, I don't see what they problem is with it.

With that said, Wald has been a wild man on special teams, and Dennard has really impressed me with his blocking on kickoff returns, he guided Paul to his return for TD and seems to get after it even if he doesn't receive the kick.
These freshmen will have a year of good coaching under their belts, and will be hungry to rip someone's head off next year. Bo knows we aren't a top 25 team this year, so why not build for the future?
