Your 2026 Nebraska Cornhuskers

It looks bad based on initial reporting but until everything plays out, I'll hold my opinions. Things aren't anyways as they seem.

You don't need 8-10 Guards, and you need at least 5 RBs with at least one injury being likely. It is fair to criticize the management of the position when they left the portal period with:
  • a 3-star with 28 carries in 2 years, other reported offers Bowling Green, UConn, UMass
  • a 4-star WR recruit with 26 carries in 1 year, offers from Oregon, Alabama, Arkansas (presumably as a WR)
  • a 3-star HS WR (always been a RB here) with 26 carries in 3 years, offers from Temple, Monmouth, and Stony Brook
  • a 3-star RB injured in HS with 0 carries so far, no other reported offers (committed early and hometown kid)
  • a 3-star incoming freshman here for spring ball, offers from Arkansas, Michigan State, Va Tech, and Syracuse
I like Mozee a lot and liked Nelson. I don't think you necessarily need returning production at the RB position. But even betting high on Nelson and Mozee the room was always an injury or incident away from being in a really bad spot and now we're there. I know recruiting stars and offers aren't everything, but the staff was gambling a lot on their ability to find diamonds in the rough and I am skeptical. I think Rule could be pretty good, but some fans are hyping him up a lot based off of a spring game run against the bottom of the roster.

Either you believe the coaches or you don't. We had a really good RB who move on. The coaches believed in what was in the room. Noone has proof otherwise, yet! Its my opinion that the coaches were not going to over pay for someone that's at the same level of everyone else in the room. The big difference is in our o-line.

No coach is going to say they have a bad room. There have been questions about both the number of players in the room and their ability since the end of last year and it could have been addressed. No one is asking them to overpay for someone at the same level, the current level is a problem and it should've been someone more talented.

There is a world where this works out fine - I really like Mozee, and maybe the press conference compliments for Ives, Booth, and Rule turn out to be true and it's a usable room. But there's a lot of evidence that it's an underwhelming room. I also am excited for the OL, but I feel the need to pump the brakes a bit there too. Evans is a complete stud, and Pritchett appeared to turn a corner. Geep counts for a lot. But while Black is experienced he wasn't even considered for all-conference honors in the Big 12. He's probably on the level of Lutovsky/Spindler. Mubenga and Babalade are big and have some experience, but it wasn't very good with Mubenga and South Carolina seemed perfectly willing to move on from Babalade. With the new coach and all the pieces I expect the line to be very solid. I don't think they will immediately jump to a level of dominance where the RBs behind them don't matter at all.

If there's one thing the staff under Rhule has been good at it's not being able to evaluate and develop the running back position. It took a complete outsider to tell them EJ should clearly be RB1 when fans could see it right away. I guess they did resurrect Rahmir to an extent though. But EJ is unforgivable.

I call BS BS.

EJ made a name for hisself. It took him 4 years. RB coach doesn't deserve credit for that. RB coach gettin credit because EJ finally finally got the touches as a vet.

RB coach was all about Dowdell and wasted EJ as a JR back.

If it wasn't for DH stepping in....

RB coach needs to earn his paper for once. He's got enough talent with Mozee, Ives, Booth, Rule, and whatever happens to Nelson.

Can you get 3-4-5 yards? Can you catch a pass out of the backfield? Can you block someone on a pass play?

It's not science. But the RB coach wants you to think that.

F him and his ego and waiting for seniors (older guys). Let them play. They got recruited to be an RB and they will do fine.

Emmett Johnson made the RB coach appear like gold. And it's BS.

EJ got his --- because of hisself, his talent his hard work, and Dana Holgerson recognizing that he need to be on the field. RB coach had nothing to do with that.

I want to see, Ives get more carries. Lot of hype on him when he signed. Is this the year he really gets a chance.

Uh... I don't think he was making the argument you think he was making. You're going to be hard pressed to find anyone here that thinks coach Barthel has been anything short of a poor ROI so far.
