It's all about being in the right place at the right time. Zac Taylor is not an exceptionally gifted QB. His physical skills may be average at best. He is a big time competitor and plays with the fire and emotion that players should play with but most don't. He wasn't a highly sought after recruit, so he went to Wake. He saw the writing on the wall that he wouldn't get to play much there, so he transferred to a JuCo. He put up some big numbers and was just what NU was looking for. He came in with the expectation to be a leader who wouldn't lose games for us. He was brought in as a bandaid QB until we can get a QB that plays with his fire and emotion but has better physical attributes. He's is a huge bandaid right now. There's no way we'd only have 2 losses with any of the backup core we have playing now.
Here's my take about being at the right place at the right time. Zac Taylor had zero stock in the NFL until he came to NU. NU was in deep doo doo in terms of a QB. Zac Taylor won't be a first round draft pick, but I believe he easily goes by the 4th round. He may never be much of an NFL QB other than a reliable backup, but how many people think Kurt Warner is a great QB? Kurt Warner really isn't any better than Zac Taylor, but he is I believe a Super Bowl MVP. Just like Warner, Taylor can't scramble. However, just like Warner; Taylor makes excellent decisions most of the time with the football. It's been a win-win situation for NU and Taylor the last two seasons. If Taylor continues to have this kind of luck, I think he could easily play in the NFL. There are QB's that were no better and in some cases worse than Taylor that have won Super Bowls (Trent Dilfer comes to mind). Zac Taylor has been exactly what NU has needed and NU is exactly what Taylor needed.
