TULSA, Okla. -- Tulane safety Devon Walker suffered a broken neck and collapsed lung Saturday in a head-to-head collision with a teammate during a game with Tulsa, according to a Tulane trainer.

Walker was revived on the field and a tracheotomy was performed. Walker is currently in the emergency and trauma center at Saint Francis Hospital in Tulsa, but there is no further update on his condition.

Saw the play on an ESPN game break. The hit itself didn't look that bad but I only saw it once and from one angle. It's amazing how fragile and durable the human body can be at times. Horrible news at any rate, they said he stopped breathing. Hope things turn out alright.

 
My only fear about my son playing football is something like this happening to him.
I'd be more concerned about TBI, heat injuries and unknown heart issues. Incidents like we saw today and what we saw in Rutgers are painful to watch but I'd imagine they're fairly rare.
