I chose other because it's not realistic to have the success we had in the 90's. What I want to see is for Nebraska to be competitive week in and week out. I'd put the 2009 season into this category. We were competitive week in and week out. Last year is not what I want to see where we get obliterated by Wisconsin and Michigan. We were far from competitive last year. For as great as the 90's were, it took TO and staff a long time getting to that point. We had some pretty lopsided losses when TO was standing on the sideline. I just want there to be a chance each and ever week for a win. This season could still shape up to be that way. Most people will look at this loss to UCLA completely different if UCLA goes on to lose only one or two games this year.

I don't even understand there being more than one choice. Who hopes to be less than th e best you can be? I'll use Nick Sabin as an example since many of the posters here were not around throughout the TO era or were very young during the mid 90's dominance. Sabin is never satisfied and just look at Bama now. He was chewing people out even as they dismantled Meatchicken. There is absolutely nothing wrong with desiring or expecting excellence. If you will settle for less, less is all that you will ever acheive. There were many years during the TO era that elements were missing but the expectations were always high. Even when we won NC's or conference titles, I never felt our talent level eclipsed everyone elses. Rather it was the result of a culture of excellence. I wouldn't have any motivation to be a fan if I didn't expect that return to excellence. And btw, excellence does not mean mid 90's type dominance or any predetermined number of wins per year. However, it does mean being competitive week in and week out and not being regularly embarrassed by lesser opponents. I could care less about ten wins or conference titles or NC's. Those things come about in a culture of excellence. They are not what defines it. If you don't understand it, I suggest you read a few of Tom Osbornes books like More Than Winning.

Sadly, a lot of people on this board think it's unrealistic to expect excellence. They are willing to accept mediocrity, and have all the excuses to back it up (i.e., we can't get good recruits here because it's Nebraska, we can't get a good coach to come here, blah blah blah)

I said other. I don't know if we will ever have a run at Nebraska like we had back in the 90s, nor will any other team in the nation have a dynasty like that most likely.

I'm barely old enough to remember the 97 national championship, though I do remember it slightly. I think our team today needs to figure out how to adopt the mentality that those guys had back then and then more success will come to our program than what we have been seeing.
