A day removed

 Yeah. I'd say you've earned your right to comment on a f'ing Nebraska football game on HB. lol
not only me, but a lot of us...

Hence my optimistically pessimisstic attitude. Lets me have the best of the both worlds: we stink, we lost to a young team with a new coach. we had our chances to win. we can improve and still have a great season.
I'm in that camp too, but with the exception, if we're doing something wrong, F*CKING fix it instead of letting it cost us a game...

glass half full: we lost to a talented time in an away game where we had our chances to win. we can improve a still have a great season.

a day removed might no change much, but i do not think this season is over just yet.
I had to wait a day, because less than 36 hours ago, I was pretty pissed...

I don't think the season is over yet, but there is a hell of a lot of work to be done to turn this around. Imagine if we struggle against Arky St, this will make this past week look tame. People will be jumping out of windows more than the stock market collapsing. I was just in shock that Papuchis didn't rip somebody a new one at half time for the lack of tackling that occured in the first half alone. Unless there is some serious adjustments, this is gonna be tough sledding the rest of the way. And not for nothing, but at some point, Bo should have pulled Beck aside during the 4th and tell him, "stop slinging it around, we're only down by two, I've seen this movie".
I guess I'm baffled that kids playing D1 football can't tackle?! It's the first thing you learn after this is a football and here's how you carry it! Drop your pad level below their's, focus on their belt buckle so they don't juke you, drive your shoulder pad into them, wrap your arms, drive your legs, and put them into the ground! Seems simple enough to me?

A'f*cking'men... From a defensive standpoint, that might have been one of the tougher games to watch under Bo's watch. At first, maybe they were trying to strip the ball, but I think after halftime they got completely frustrated and totally sh*t the bed fundamentally...

I never understood the "strip the ball" mentality. Have sound tackling first, then if the opportunity presents itself attempt to strip the ball. Once you get the tackling down then you can incorporate things to help strip the ball. That's what the second guy coming in is supposed to do anyways if the first guy is doing his job.

Got that right. So many times you see the attempt to strip the ball, it usually doesn't work like it should and the ball carrier gets a few more yards and you look dumb. On top of that, you've got these guys trying to make "Waterboy" hits, which means they either bounce off, miss entirely, or something else thwarts their plans.

I think the tackling issue somewhat goes hand in hand with our so-called complicated scheme. Our guys just look a step slow, more concerned with being in position and getting in position to make a play more so than just making it. That leads to the point of simplifying things for the current starter to be able to make the plays and if they cant it has to be on to the next. This next game is critical. If I dont see drastic improvement my hopes are going to head down the drain pretty quick.

Thats a hell of a good call. With our complicated "complicated defensive" scheme, how in the hell did it always seem like there was somebody open in the flat for a first down or more....

Our guys need to react a lot quicker so I agree with your observation. You can see them thinking constantly rather than using their god giving ability and reacting to the play. They got to D1 football by reacting and using their athletic ability, let them continue to do that while building up their knowledge over time. You overwhelm a kid when you bring him up to a D1 level with all that knowledge needed on top of the speed of the game compared to high school. Doesn't seem necessary to me, but then again I'm not a college coach.................I'm just a regular guy.

Missed assignments would be my guess.....................or the fact that you're wanting a slow as hell LB to cover a very fast running back. #23 gave us fits all game..............

I'm just a regular guy too, but maybe instead of reacting, maybe more of an attack mentality would help. I've never been a fan of the "read and react" type of defenses.

One other thing, was it just me, or did we wait too long to see Heard?

The minute I'd figured out that running the ball was effective, I'd have pounded the rock, rotated AA, Heard, and Cross to keep them from getting too winded, and as someone has stated, where the hell was the Diamond? Has somebody told Beck, that we've seen this movie before, and he's treading into SW territiory...

I wondered this myself. Jamal Turner would be awesome out this formation. Braylon Heard did not touch the ball near enough either.

yeah, that too...

Beck needs to turn it around, because he's doing a SW impersonation, and I'm not really happy with that...

I think that is partly Bo's fault. He has to know when to tell Beck to make a change. Bo's overall game management skills are a bit lacking.

maybe it was never sw, maybe nebraska is some weird vortex that turns capable offensive coordinators into bumbling shawn watsons.
