HuskerOnline *Practice Report 10/17*

It all comes down to one thing. Speed.

Ndamukong Suh had the strength to get off blocks and the speed to chase people down. Crick was fast for a D-lineman. Then we had Lavonte... who was fast enough to go cross field and make tackles better than guys who were right there.

This year we lack athleticism and speed to make up for mistakes we make. That's the difference. Our back 7 are athletic but arent fast enough and athletic enough. Our front 4 are wayyy too slow. Our coaches have even admitted that we need speed. Coach Kaz was recently asked what they are recruiting this year and his answer was... speed. I think that's the main issue with the D-Line.

If your a member, this is REALLY nice to hear. Acknowledgment from coaches on what needs changed, and what we might expect with someone of a plan. We will be seeing a lot of nickel and dime packages. I am a huge fan of Coach K and Terry Joseph. Columplete realists. Finally going to see containment against a mobile QB.
Defensive line coach Rick Kaczenski said that the Huskers plan to use more containment schemes than attacking against Northwestern because the Wildcats have the ability to burn the opposition on any play.

Great, more patty cake at the line of scrimmage. Pretty sure we've seen enough of that over the past 2.5 years.
Completely agree. Over time Bo's scheme has gone from Great to good to average to piss poor. The only time Bo's scheme works is when they bring pressure. Now we get to see a prom dance with about as much contact as you get from a nervous geek on his first date.

Honest question: What's the story behind the ponies? Is there one?

I'm so confused..
People with too much time on their hands. Or maybe drugs....lots of drugs...
Nobody knows where they came from, or when it started. All we know is that it is 100%, unequivocally, without a doubt, all Landlord's fault. :D

It's getting high time we just throw the the wimpy 2-gap scheme in the toilet when playing mobile qbs. Unleash Caveman and whoever to get a damn pass rush or give up 50+ points & die.

C'mon Bo.....

Michigan has averaged 17 points a game against teams that run a two gap system, and over 50 points a game against teams that run a one gap. The 2 gap isn't the problem cause Michigan will likely score 50 on us. however things start becoming clearer when you release that the teams that they averaged 17 points a game also ran a 3-4 with 250 lb linebackers...... when you are running a two gap system with only 2 LB's especially tiny LB's that are not fast to begin with you are just F******* urself in the a$$!!!

A lot of people have also wanted a 3-3 the forth linebacker being like a nickleback in the peso, and mixing in some CB and safety blitzes, I believe that would be highly effective as well. Bo will figure it out though. Thing that scares me though is that in what some coaches can figure out at halftime Bo pelini needs the offseason for. Remember the year he went into his dungeon, and he emerged with a newly invented defense. He called it the Peso, it was really just a Nickle Defense, but we felt sorry for him so we let him believe he invented it.

Screw interviewing Bo Pelini and the coordinators. Interview the position coaches if you want to hear something other than the words process, execution, etc.
Kaz said it was not a matter of scheme, but of execution. "Over time, you look at Bo's scheme and it works"
This is such a crock of sh#t. These coaches think they have it all figured out. Amazing how such young inexperienced coaches are so unwilling to believe that their scheme may be faulty. Absolute denial by the coaches, and blaming the players is two things I was really hoping I would not see. One of the most frustrating aspects to Bo's scheme has been this "containment" plan we have. It boggles my mind that the coaches continue to talk about it like it works. Every other team beats these running QB's by forcing them to pass. We stay back, play patty cake, and give them all day to decide to run or pass. It has killed us in the past, especially against Michigan. The blueprint is out there on how to beat these teams. I have watched other teams beat these teams, and they are not doing it the same way we are trying to. Damn this is frustrating.

BO, YOUR SCHEME NEEDS AN OVERHAUL. It's year 5 and we continue to see the same exact things happening to your defenses. It's time to examine yourself and stop blaming these players.

By the way, and this is a serious question for anyone willing to answer. I keep hearing these coaches say that the team will play with " a tremendous sense or urgency". What in the holy hell does that even mean? We're gonna run around like we have to piss really badly? It sure hell doesn't mean we are going to fly around and make plays on the football because Bo's scheme does not call for "playmaking" it calls for sound gap execution and read and react panzy bullsh#t. Does it mean we will be lined up and ready when the ball is actually snapped for once? Does it mean we aren't going to take plays off? Were we taking plays off before? If so, why the f#*k? Please, someone explain this entire phrase and how it translates to our team.

I am hoping it means that the guys will play as though the game is dependent on every single snap whether on O or D. Each defensive play needs to end in a TO or a stop for loss. On O, no TO's, punch em in the mouth. Realize that a single loss form here on out and we can hang this season up. No BCS, no Rose, no B1G championship etc...... And then next week, play with the same reckless abandon. Play fast and loose.

Ill believe it when i see results. Why in the f#*k has it taken this long to make an adjustment? I have seen people post these same ideas on here for the last two years, and the coaches are just now making a change? Really starting to wonder.......
