Good article about David with the Bucs. I have copied some highlights that echo what many on the board have been saying as it relates to our success and failure. Granted David was a freak, but the comments ring true IMO.

"It's tough. That's what I tell him," Foster said. "It's hard enough to play special teams as a rookie let alone be on defense and making calls. I tell him you can never really be wrong. No matter what you're doing, do it at 100 mph. Be wrong fast, and it'll make you right.



Sheridan says what David and Foster lack in experience they more than make up for with instincts. Both are solid tacklers and nimble enough to function in coverage.



"They're playing really fast," said Pete Prisco, an NFL writer for CBSSports.com. "The quickness (David) plays with reminds me — and I know Bucs are going to get crazy when I say this — it reminds me of (Derrick) Brooks. Foster last year seemed to be thinking too much and not reacting. And now he's much faster to the football and reacting much better.

 

Speed, instincts and reacting properly. At the college level it seems like a combination of great recruiting and then coaching development. Slow guys playing and not executing......................We have our work cut out for us. Hoping to see an improved product today.

As I mentioned in another thread, put your fastest athletes on the field. Inevitably they'll make schematic mistakes here and there since they'll rely on instincts, but still play to their strength which is SPEED. In certain instances, their speed will allow them to recover. Adjust on the fly accordingly with coaches keeping tight communication throughout the game. It's a "trial by fire" approach, but you can't teach speed/athleticism.

It's clear with the recent comments from the coaches, that they just don't see the team overthinking. To the rest of the world it is obvious the Huskers aren't flying around and making plays. They are not being allowed to "play ball". Even the announcers in the Wisconsin game said Bo's tendency to try to get the "perfect" call, was hurting the defense and hindering their ability to make plays. It's obvious this is a problem, yet it's not obvious to the people who really need to see it. The only ones that matter are the coaches. Yet we continue to hear about effort and toughness. More about execution. When are these coaches going to examine their "own" execution. Is it too hard for these guys to believe that as young and inexperienced as they are as a staff, that they might not have it all figured out. The process, the process....blah blah blah. Well Bo and staff, there is also a process in being a coach. Taking the opportunities to learn when you can. Learn from those who have been there and done it before you with success. Most importantly, ADAPTING. This staff has shown a real weakness in adaptability. Even the legend Tom Osborne knew he had to adapt. Bo seems to believe so strongly in his system, he seems unwilling to believe that there may need to be some changes. It's frustrating to me, and I bet it really frustrates these players. It will only hurt recruiting down the road if players continue to realize they will not be put in a position to succeed. Yes, they may succeed in school, they may succeed in Life, (which is all excellent things) but most kids playing big time football want to EXCEL IN FOOTBALL. You don't have it all figured out Bo. The man who thinks he knows it all, usually know the least. I mean, look at me, I think I know it all, and I don't know sh#t. Bo's snide remark about how he told us all he knew how to coach defense showed he is defensive and stubborn, and will continue to try to force his scheme to work. I believe that will be his downfall. It needs to change.

We've had two weeks to prepare for this game. I hope this team "comes to play" today considering I guess there have been multiple games they decided they weren't going to play? I still don't understand that. Northwestern will be ready. Hell, they're even taking a nap before game time. Talk about a coach that's willing to change things up a bit. Holy cow. If those guys wake up from their naps and come out to thrash our a$$, I expect the Husker world to come crashing down on Bo pretty hard. Hell, maybe it needs to happen.

Excellent points all around.

IMO, today will be the deciding factor if Bo will be the guy for a while or be on the hot seat. we come out flat with no adjustments to scheme or personnel and it will prove your comments correct and probably (and should) put Bo on notice that things need to change. I will continue to support the kids, team and staff, but Bo needs to show that he can actually learn and put PERFORMANCE over PRIDE and pull the trigger on some changes.

 
Every Husker fan should try and catch a Bucaneer game this year. If you watch for 5 minutes you will see Lavonte make a play (or 2).... He is going too quickly become one of the best LB's in the league....

 
Lavonte is having hellavua good season so far. I was so positive about this I took him as starting LB in fantasy football.

Btw you guys see the hit Niles Paul put on the punt returner last week. Ranks right up there with "infamous" hit NU put on the Ok PR a few years ago.

Tampa LB are set for the next 5-7 years. Foster and David nice rookie combo
