First Half Woes - How do they get corrected

Beck made comments post game about the slow starts on offense. He said that teams are throwing defensive looks at them that the opponent has not show at all in previous games. And it took a little time to get adjustments made.

Bo took the blame for the first half defensive confusion also. He said that he got the plays in a little slow. So in the second half when PSU went hurry-up they stayed in base.

Well, I am planning on going to the Minnesota game and we have a losing streak dating back to 2004 for games that I attend. So I guess I should apologize in advance ;)
Then do the Huskerboard mods and admins a favor and don't go ;)
I promised my 5 year old that I'd take him to his first game this fall. And I am a man of my word.
Aw crap. Hope you guys have fun at least!
I normally like to get drunk so the game is easier to live with. Can't do that with the lad there.. It's worth the trip back just for a slice of Val's. It tastes good at the games; outside the games not as much.
This is very true. And I have no idea why.

It's got to be because of the mood you're in while in the stadium. Best slice of Val's I ever ate was at the 2001 Oklahoma game. Can't be a coincidence. That was a great day.

The coaches have also said they work on the stupid mistakes and harp on them, penalties, and turnovers, but they continue to make them in games. I hate that everybody still blames the coaches.

you solve it by winning in the second half....also on ksu, THE BIG12 DOES NOT PLAY DEFENSE, WE WOULD ROLL THOSE TEAMS (and the ones that do/did just happen to be a #1 in the country ksu, beat the previous #1 team A&M, and on top of their division Neb)

Agree. Read that elsewhere. PSU's tempo surprised them. They weren't ready for that and they were late signaling in plays. Just goes to prove at some point you got to let the kids play and to keep it simple. I also got the impression from a player that they do some in game adjustment but most happen at half time. While that is fairly typical, it seems in the old days they always were dragging out the chalk board on the sidelines and getting to those major adjustments earlier. Maybe the answer to that is complexity. Maybe they are just so complex you can't do that on the sidelines in that time space.

I have no answers. Just frustration. We aren't that far from being 0-6 in the B1G. Michigan is the only team we pulled away from, and who knows what happens without Bellomy. Glad we're 5-1, but I really wish we could put together a full effort. I watched a KSU team filled with 2 and 3 star recruits dominate a pretty decent TCU team from start to finish. No falling behind big early, no crazy fourth quarter comeback. Just solid fundamental football from start to finish. I wish we were at least showing significant improvement as a team. I don't really see it.
I actually think we would punch KSU in the mouth and bring them back to earth if we played them.
I am loving the heart of the Huskers and their grit... but KSU plays now at an entirely different level than NU. They would beat us badly in a game that would not even be contested.

The heart of our poorly coached team and the talent they possess relative to the general B1G level of talent has allowed the Huskers to be where they are... but in the Pac12, Big 12 or SEC... the Skers' heart and grit would not be enough. We are not even remotely close to playing at the level of the elite.

I think we'd keep it close. But mistakes would probably cost us. Wouldn't be a blowout IMO

Good for you, your Son will be the good luck charm I am sure.

Husker fans have grown to hate this word, but it all comes down to one thing:

EXECUTION!!!

We don't do it in the first half, but we do in the 2nd half. I guess if I had to choose one half for us to execute, it would be the 2nd. I just wish we would do it the entire game.
I don't know if it's that simple. We look like we don't know what the hell we're doing at times. To me that points more to how we're preparing. Too much film study and not enough time getting these looks against the scout team or vice versa? I don't know what the issue is but it frustrating watching the first half. You always think in the back of your mind that we can come back because we've shown it multiple times, but still, it's going to catch up to us sooner or later. 10-2 does sound pretty damn good though.
Here's an idea. Let's call up the opposing team from now on and see if they would like to come run their entire playbook against our defense on Thursday before the game. You think they would go for it?

You know, the best defense in college football this year just got jumped on early today. We aren't the only team that can get a little confused at the start of a game.
Easy there Francis. I was just suggesting that it's not just execution. No need to get excited. And if you think Bama has the best D in the country after watching what that pathetic LSU offense did to them last week you must not be paying attention. They were great last year. This year, not even close to the same level. It's amazing what happens when they actually start playing some decent competition.
Wow i wouldn't tell someone to take it easy unless you have an idea of what you are talking about. Last time i still looked they still played in the SEC. they are still playing the same amount of ranked opponents. the only changes are the non-con, play missouri and A&M instead of vanderbilt and florida. othewise exactly the same schedule as last year. yes the same quality opponents in non-con. 1 big school and 1 small school and fcs school.

My point was that up until the LSU game they had played no one. Mississippi State was a fluke. Their hard part of their schedule started last week; just watch how the ppg skyrocketed from the single digits it once was. You can perhaps claim Michigan is a good team, but I think that's a stretch and it might as well have been a home game for them. Really not that hard of a schedule if you look at it. I think our schedule is tougher given we had UCLA and Ohio State to play away from home.

One plan for overcoming the annoyance of our first half playing woes is to just not tune in till halftime is over.... heh heh. Otherwise I"m with tschu and have grown to love this "hilarious mess" that is the 2012 Huskers. Just win baby...just win.
