Old Recruiting Battles

I really don't follow recruiting nearly like some of you. But, this question came to mind.

Looking back 3-5 years ago, what stand out players this year were we really close to signing but missed out on for some reason? Are there any players that have received post season awards or going to be top 10-20 draft picks that we were right down to the wire with but they chose another school?

Riley reiff (sd kid, committed to NU, then bailed for io_a, high nfl draft pick), trevor robinson(omaha, went to ND, now in nfl), travis lewis (good college player for OU, not sure on nfl status)

Three two bigger ones that come to my mind were during the Clownahan era with Ray Maleuga and Reggie Smith. With Bo at the reins Wayne Lyons could have been a stud

We told Barry Sanders no when he wanted in.

Not sure if that's a recruiting battle, but...

We lost quite a few 4+ corners, at least two of them named David (whitmore, ross?) at the last second but I don't know if they ever turned out well.

Gabbert supposedly was interested again after Wats was retained, but staff decided to move on.

Mark Sanchez was interested even with Beck on board but staff decided we were done at the position.

Some that haven't been mentioned:

2007 - Noah Keller - should have been offered. Great player for Ohio.

2008 - lamichael james - nearly landed him late

Dj woods - very productive at cinci

2009 - Bennie Logan - looking good for lsu at a position of need for us
