Oregon will name Frost OC

Sources close to the program are telling the AP that Mark Helfrich will be named head coach on Sunday and that Scott Frost will be named OC. It would be cool to see a few Nebraska wrinkles in the offense.

 
That's impossible!!! They are Oregon!!! They are entitled to a big name head coach and big name assistants. It's the only way you can be successful in college football. Frost doesn't have any experience as a OC. There is NO WAY this could ever work!

 
And Helfrich doesnt have any experience as a HC. All that money they have and they cant go steal Nick Saban or a Stoops. Ridiculous ring of buddy promotions and yes men up there in Oregon right now.

 
Good for Scott. Will be anxious to see how well he does year 1. I wonder if they will simply continue to run the Ducks O with no real changes at all. Just keep moving the system forward.

 
I would think that when you promote from within that there will be a continuation of the direction of the program. I dont expect any changes at all, esp with a returning starter as qb.

 
For those that want to see Frost at Nebraska someday, this is a really good step. Beck wants to be a head coach someday so if he leaves Frost would have some experience and may be a really good candidate.

I disagree. He didnt leave for us for an equal position the first time, why would he the second. Not to mention, if Helfrich has the same success (which isnt totally absurd to think), he could be gone in 3-4 years too, leaving Frost possible their unspoken coach in waiting.

I see what youre saying in "for those that want to see Frost at Nebraska someday", but I'm just being honest in believing that it just isnt gonna happen. I hope I would be wrong.

Kinda weird to see these guys that I grew up watching play becoming successful coordinators and coaches. Scott Frost, Major Applewhite, Josh Heupel, Kliff Kingsbury...

I know that SF was in the running for the LA Tech HC job, but I read an article that said that he was a "serious candidate" for a couple of the open MAC jobs. He obviously didn't get either of them, but does anyone know which schools they were?

Helfrich leaving would be interesting. It would be like one of us getting the Nebraska job and only staying for 3-4 years. He grew up a Ducks fan and his dad played for Oregon's freshmen team back in the day. If he got a job in the pros, sure, but no way he leaves for a lateral job.

Maybe. Maybe not.

He wanted to be an OC. Perhaps he thought he had a quicker path to OC if he stayed there rather than came back.

I think he would be more attractive to Bo with some OC experience - especially if their offense continues like it has - but that would be another lateral move for him. Might end up having a lot to do with how both programs fare over the next couple years.
