The NCAA passed a whole bunch of rule changes for recruiting, the changes wont be in effect for this year's class, but next year and beyond its going to be much more wild it looks like.

Some highlights

11-2, which will eliminate the rules defining recruiting coordination functions that must be performed only by a head or assistant coach.
11-4, which will remove limits on the number of coaches who can recruit off-campus at any one time, the so-called “baton rule.”

13-3, which will eliminate restrictions on methods and modes of communication during recruiting.

So now the guys in Tuscaloosa can give the players cars that have a cd in there with audio saying they now have a scholarship, and they can do it legally lol

 
Hopefully our staff takes advantage of this. It allows the schools that recruit well to do it even better. I am all for many of the changes though. Opening up when a recruit can be contacted etc is smart and a benefit to all parties

 
There is a line in there that will change everything. Staff members will also be able to recruit, not just coaches. Welcome to the era of dedicated recruiting staff members who only focus is recruiting.

 
I read that part to mean you can have dedicated recruiting coordinators, not necessarily actual recruiters. I'm curious for clarification though.

I do like these changes as a whole. I really like the focus on allowing schools to provide more support, legally, to students. This is something TO has been pushing for for a while, matching up what the school can provide with the kids actual expenses. It benefits us because we have the means to spare no expense meeting the costs and because it should make it easier for kids to live far away from home.

As mentioned above, the easing of contact restrictions will also benefit schools that rely on hustle, which NU does, believe it or not.

I wish they'd address oversigning somehow to level the playing field, but this is still a positive move for once by the NCAA.

 
I personally think the unlimited contact is a bunch of bs. Basically, these high school kids are going to start being bothered now on a 24/7 basis. Decisions are going to start to be made based on who annoys them less. I know with social media these days it's extremely hard to police the contact rules, so it appears they decided to make it all okay, kinda like legalizing marijuana.

I tend to agree with you. If I were a top recruit in the next few years, I would start getting worried.

The part that I believe will help Nebraska the most is the elimination of limitations on the staff. Nebraska's staff has to work harder than many places and travel a lot farther to get to many recruits. This will allow our program to be more active in more areas of the country all at the same time.

 
That's what I'm thinking that it will probably help us, the kstates and such a bit because it allows us to have more contact without the travel. But watch, next coaches are gonna start hiring glorified secretaries to basically sit on their a$$ all day and manage twitter and facebook accounts. From a student athlete standpoint, how much is too much?

i dont want folks thinking i'm one of these old fogy, technology sucks types. I dont take part in facebook or twitter, but I understand that it is how the world works now. But these are high school kids, and to me the proportion of college football as a business to being a school activity is just becoming a little out of whack.

Completely 100% agree.

Here's the issue though. We are competing against programs that don't give a flying rat's azz about these kids. And, for the most part, the top kids don't care about that attitude and we are losing out in the recruiting wars. I like this class. But, we are fighting like hell to get what we have and keep it and we still aren't in the top 10.

We need some rules to be improved for us for once.

I asked this once on anther board and couldn't come up with anything.

Since the 1980s, what rules changes or developments in college football have taken place that actually HELPS Nebraska be more competitive?

I don't think it means "unlimited contact" - it means they removed limits on the "methods" of contact. basically facebook and texting was getting lumped into phone calls and other forms of communication. if a recruit subscribes to your twitter account and you send out a tweet are you communicating w/ that recruit during a dead period? technically yes. it was getting too complicated because things have changed so much.
