ACC - ESPN Deal - does it stop conf expansion

I thought Nebraska's AAU status was revoked shortly after or before acceptance to the Big 10, and that the conference knew it was going to happen going in so it wasnt an issue.

Or is my memory off a bit? I didn't know Nebraska had regained that status.

UW and scUM voted against keeping Nebraska AAU if I recall that correctly.

It was revoked the year we entered the B1G. Had we not have had it initially, I think we would still be part of the Big 12.

You say this like it isn't already known that 2 B1G universities voted them out.

"All the Big Ten schools are AAU members," Nebraska Chancellor Harvey Perlman said. "I doubt that our application would've been accepted had we not been a member of the organization."

I am just quoting someone that would know more about it than you, myself or anyone else on this board. Its not like I am just giving my opinion and saying stuff that has never been said before.

I'm thinking Nebraska was AAU at the time of application and acceptance, but that it had been revoked before actually being part of the conference. Does that sound right? I usually have a good memory on this historical stuff, but it seems a little shaky to me.

But your absolutely correct accountability. At the time of our invite, and acceptance, we were an AAU member.

Take your post 18 and smiley and shove it. It says nothing about when in the process it was revoked. :P

Haha

I believe we joined the B1G in 2010, and was announced sometime at the beginning of the year, and around a year later, we were revoked and removed.

Yes. The Big10 application and acceptance came in June-I think-of 2010. Youre right it was a little less than a year later that it was revoked. But had we been fully implemented into the conference when it was? Because that was July 1st of 2011. And as I said, I remember when it happened that Delaney and Co. had a pretty good idea that it was coming even when the application process was going on, so it wasnt that much of a big deal anyway.

EDIT: April 29th according to this story. It was before we were actually a part of the conference.

EDIT: Just read the ESPN article.

Once we accepted their invite, do you think they would have pulled the invite right after we were revoked, a month or two before we were implemented? Schedules were already made, and we were half way out of the Big 12 at that time.

Us being a part of it, could have had a big impact on why were were invited. If we hadn't been, and we would have been revoked in 2009, would we still be in the Big 12?

Once we accept their invite, are they allowed to pull it, as contracts were already signed? Are you sure it was July 2011 we were fully implemented? Not saying your wrong in any means. I just remember a contracted schedule coming out before our Spring game in April of 2011. I could definitely be wrong about this one.
Yes. It was July 1st, 2011 when we were officially a member of the conference. Sure there was scheduling and stuff before for logistical reasons, so I bet it was contractually binding before that date. So, yes, you are right.

I don't think we will know for sure. Just speculation and guessing lol. You were also commenting while I was editing. I had read the article after my reading, like a dummy haha.

You are correct on your dates sir :)

Does anyone know how much money each AAU university that is in the Big Ten receives for research funding? Is it more than the profit sharing of the athletic departments?

Nebraska is not a member

And I think that while it is noble to want all AAU members in your conference, if none are available and you feel the need to expand, then you go to the next line of possibilities.
I believe it came down to the fact that the medical research univ is in Omaha and not in Lincoln - the main copy - if I recall. Being from Tulsa, I'd love to see OU drop OSU and come into the conf. They could still keep the tx game going and still schedule bedlam as non-conf. But the weaker OSU has legislative buddies that many not allow it to happen.
