I remember a few years ago when Watson was calling screens. A couple went for pick sixes and the fan base was claiming screens were a horrible play to call because they are too dangerous.

Just shows the mood swings of fan bases.

I agree there is a place for them and they can be very effective. But, if the defense sniffs them out, it's can be bad news.

The reason OU took Ganz's first pass back for a TD off a screen is not because screens are a bad play in general. It was because for the 5 or 6 games prior to that, the first offensive play of the game that we ran was a WR screen. And Bob Stoops is not stupid. Watson was sooooo predictable it was embarrassing.

I had the pleasure of not witnessing that game, but you are correct about the playcalling sequence of the previous games.

Gabe Lynn (being recruited heavily by both schools at the time) was talking with Rivals afterwards because he was on his official to Oklahoma for that game. Whoever was interviewing him asked a question about the defensive strategy and he told him that the defensive coordinator had told Gabe before the game that they were going to intercept the first pass of the game for a touchdown.

Martinez throwing interceptions is less of a worry than him putting the ball on the turf. He has poor ball handling skills when he's running.

I think shooting for that 60 run/40 pass ratio is perfect. Martinez is a senior quarterback with three years in the same system, which is great for him. He should be far more comfortable and have expert command of the huddle. I prefer he only throw about 25 times a game, but that's mainly cause I'm just a huge fan of running the football.

This +1, we know our rushing attack is one of the best in country.

Count me in this group as well. More specifically, if the game warrants throwing the rock 30 time so be it. I just do not want to see us chucking the ball around when the run is an advantage over the course of a game.

We need to run just to eat up more clock - esp early in the season when this young D is trying to find their bearings. We cannot have a 2 minute drill each time we are out there on O - our D will fall apart.
