Nebraska/Oregon connection

Whether Bo and Scott get along or not, I've heard from a couple reliable folks that the window for Scott to return to Nebraska as anything but a Head coach is all but closed.

That'd be great, but given Bo's history of promotion from within, I could see Fisher getting that promotion....
I've seen this several times on this board and for the life of me, I have no idea why. Yes, I like what he has done with the receivers. But, does that automatically make him OC material?
No, but it still leaves some semblance of continuity with the system, as opposed to hiring a new guy completely. If Bo feels as though Fish is the guy for the job when that time comes, I trust it.

Probably. It's just what I've heard. And from a common sense standpoint, it's probably true. He's flying up the coaching pecking order. He's already an OC. It's at the point now as it is that anything less than a HC is lateral at best, especially comparing the current prestige of Oregon to Nebraska.

I actually agree with you, just like using that gif....

On his radio show this morning, Benning commented that NU is also probably chatting with Oregon's DC on schemes, as Oregon runs a 3-man front.

Oh...I trust his judgment over mine or any message board hack any day of the week.

I was just wondering if there was something I was missing that we fans have seen or knew that would make him the prime candidate.

As for Scott, I have no clue if it will ever happen and I always want Nebraska to hire the best available. However, if it would happen that Scott proves himself as an OC, if/when Bo would ever leave Scott would step in as HC. One thing I like about that is I think Scott would obviously run a simliar offense to what we have so it wouldn't be a wholesale switch in personnel like we have seen in the last two changes.

Not to mention, promoting from within in addition to continuity allows you the leeway of hiring from the outside for a lesser position. Like when Carl left, we promoted a guy who had already been here to run the whole D, and went outside for the new position coach. I see this as an advantage. And also, when doing so, you start to instill a loyalty and faith in someone in giving them that chance that could pay huge dividends down the road.

It's fair to say the Beck promotion was a Homerun, but the Papuchis hire? To be determined at best....
To be determined is 100% accurate. I can live with that. It's those that already write it off as the wrong hire who have no clue. Because we have no clue yet.
