Huh? Roy was the best back we've had in a decade.
Maybe, we didn't really get to see Rex's senior year...but what we did see makes me think he would have surpassed Helu had he been healthy all season. This one is a toss-up for me, maybe clouded by Rex off the field, versus solely on what he did on the field. I'd take either any day of the week though.

(Burkhead average 6.9 YPC last year, Helu 5.2 his senior year)

Roy averaged 6.6 his Senior year (on double the carries). IMO, while Rex was good between the tackles, he wasn't the breakaway threat that Roy was (part of the reason Taylor had such great rushing numbers in 2010).

Maybe as far as career production, but I'll take Rex. He brings a bigger package to the team. Almost entirely fumble-proof, can run wildcat (he was essentially our 2nd string qb in 2010), etc.

The thing is that we don't really need the breakaway threat - we have that in Taylor. I don't think Roy's ability is a huge reason for Taylor's rushing numbers in 2010...how would you argue that? If anything, I would say Roy's big numbers were in very large part due to good playcalling and Taylor's running threat. He had at least four long runs where he wasn't touched by a single defender, not because he made them miss, but because we set up the play so well that all he did was just run to the endzone.

Ahhhhhh another argument where statistics are the only thing that a person looks at. Roy was a really good back for us, and there's definitely an argument to be made for him, but I'll take Rex. There's just something extra that's special about the way that Rex plays. You can always count on him to pick up the extra 2 yards.

Give me the entire 2009 or 2010 defense and pair it with the entire 2012 offense and we are going to be dynamite. Throw in a couple of players on the offense from the first couple years.... like Helu or Rex or Nate Swift, or MCNeil, or Todd Peterson. Got to have Alex doing all of the kicking.

You just made my point. When defenses keyed on Taylor, they got burned by Roy. When they keyed on Roy, the got burned by Taylor.
