Bo Pelini Dream Team

I remember people being harsh on Ganz after that pick.

But that was before we witnessed debacles like Wisconsin and Ohio State.

Whether you like Ganz or Martinez depends on what kind of offense you want to run. Ganz was a better thrower but can't run like Martinez or do the zone read like Taylor. They're different quarterbacks.

People forget so quickly that Ganz also had a penchant for very costly turnovers or mistakes at crucial moments.
Like when? Other than the sack he took against Colorado in 08 that had everyone thinking we were knocked out of field goal range, I have a tough time recalling when.
4 picks against KU and 3 against CU in 2007, bad pick in the 1st Quarter of the VT game, pick against TT in OT, bad sack against CU in 08...

People were kinda hard on him after the OU game, but it was more directed at the defense and at Watson. It's a different story with Taylor.

that stupid interception against Texas Tech that cost us the game. That would of been a top 5 upset on the road....
That interception is not what cost us the game...see my above post.
The same could be said for Martinez.... Martinez won us at least 3 games last year.... Hypocrisy....

Completely unrelated things. Wisconsin and tOSU are on the defense. TTech was on Ganz' INT.
You can't tell me the multiple turnovers didn't play a huge part in those outcomes. I mean, you can, but it's nonsense.

Again, no doubt it was a bone headed play. and the ball should have been thrown into the 3rd row. However, we had many chances to win that football game and you can't put it on the guy that delivered a clutch touchdown to put the game into OT.

My point is, Landlord said that Ganz had a knack for coughing up the ball and making mistakes during crucial moments. Moments, of course, being plural. Outside of the one play at Texas Tech (the game he went 36 for 44, with 349 yards and a couple scores), I don't see where Ganz folded when we needed him.

You could say the 2008 OU game, but that seems like it was a total team brain fart.

IMO the difference between Ganz and Martinez is that Ganz was tough, and Martinez is just fast although but both could think quick on their feet. I do think Martinez is a good QB but he usually makes me cringe when I see him run near a defensive guy because of his lack of agility which is why Crouch was so good.

I wouldn't say a huge part. Yeah, it's never good to turn it over, but the last 2 years, our D has had zero confidence, swagger, attitude, whatever you want to call it to minimize the damage.

Martinez is tough, though. :dunno
I mean he is by getting up when he gets hit but when he runs, he slows down and he gets knocked instead of hitting back n trying to stay on his feet which is why Ganz was liked so much even though Ganz didn't do it a ton.

We gave up 76 points to KU in 07

We gave up 65 points to Colorado in 07

Those 4 picks against KU did not shape the outcome of the game. Our inability to stop anything KU threw at us is what killed us. Ganz didn't even toss his first pick in that game until we were down 21 points, practically forcing us to go to the air. I could understand if Ganz dug our team into that 21 point deficit, but that was our defense.

That pick against VT was bad, but Ganz still kept us in that game.

I'll clarify. It's acknowledged by anyone with common sense that at times, our offense can be its own worst enemy. A good portion of that has to do with Taylor. But you'd be hard pressed to find a QB who can run this offense and make it as big of a threat as it is now.

OU's offense was a buzz saw that year. You can hardly fault Ganz for those two picks in against OU though...first play of the game, if you watched any sort of film on Nebraska at all that year, you knew exactly what play we were running. We had run that screen play a million times and Dominique Franks jumped the route. The second pick was a tipped ball.
