Coaches poll is out

But would an undefeated Nebraska team jump a 1 loss team (especially if it's Alabama or another SEC team) if we beat an Ohio State team that isn't in also in the running for the MNC?
we wouldn't need to jump them, we'd already be ahead of them. you'll have a hard time finding a season where a 1 loss team jumped an undefeated team from one of the SEC/Pac12/Big12/B1G. Just isn't going to happen. We aren't Boise, we aren't Utah. We'll be fine. Now if we've got a bunch of 1-2 loss teams...we aren't going to stand a chance regardless of how highly ranked Ohio State is. We're just starting to low, and our loss isn't going to be in week 4, it'll be in week 11 or 12. The only way I see us jumping a 1 loss SEC team is if that SEC team isn't playing for the SEC championship. Even then, I think we'll be one of the lower rated 1 loss teams. We'd have to have a lot of 2 loss teams.
just for numbers (BCS rankings top):

2012: no one loss above a zero

2011: ditto

2010: same

2009: Florida one spot ahead of Boise

2008: five teams ahead of Utah and then two ahead of Boise

2007: several two loss teams above Hawaii

2006: several one and two losses above Boise

2005: none

2004: Texas and Cal above Utah and a couple two losses above Boise

2003: none

2002: none

2001: none

2000: none

1999: 11 teams ahead of Marshall with a couple three loss teams

1998: nine above Tulane with a couple of two losses

So, yes, kchusker's logic checks out; it would seem that if Nebraska is undefeated, there is no concern about being jumped by a one losser as Nebraska is not Tulane, Marshall, Boise, Utah, or Hawaii--I think you are safe.
I know that we would not get jumped by 1-loss teams, but if we were to beat Ohio State (or any team in the CCG) that isn't in national title, do you think we would be able to jump a 1-loss Alabama if they were ahead of us to play for the MNC?

The point is that they wouldn't be ahead of us.
I know, the data backs up that as well, just giving some actual numbers without having to do a week by week deal for the the last several years to see if that ever occurred during the regular season; would take way too long. I am bored right now, but not that bored :)

As in the #1 team is undefeated and Alabama is #2 with one loss, and Nebraska is undefeated as well? I think yes, if we simply go by past history, then an undefeated Nebraska should be in the title game above any one loss team. Now could this be the first year that doesn't happen (excluding the non power names that got jumped)? Sure.

Also, if I am getting all the information confused, its not my fault, its the Shock Tops I have been drinking on this humid DC day :)

In light of the Coaches poll being released and people complaining about Ohio State's schedule, I decided to look at the top 5 ranked teams.

#1 Alabama - 1 FCS team and two ranked teams on their schedule.

#2 Ohio State - 1 FCS team and three ranked teams on their schedule.

#3 Oregon - 1 FCS team and three ranked teams on their schedule.

#4 Stanford - 0 FCS teams and five ranked teams on their schedule.

#5 Georgia - 1 FCS team (technically) and four ranked teams on their schedule.

Why do we not hear complaints about Alabama's schedule or Oregon's or praise for Stanford's and Georgia's?

cause more than likely as the season wears on more teams become ranked for Alabama. preseason polls are a crapshoot anyways.

would OSU played ND last year, over Alabama, had they been eligible? I don't see it, and they have more talent than we do. So yes, we could be left out the NC if we go undefeated.

See data above, the only way an undefeated Nebraska team gets left out is if there are at least three undefeated teams (I understand your scenario had three), and then it depends on which team is the third. However, if there are only two and Nebraska is one of them, it gets in (unless of course, some fluke that has never happened happens)

They would have played over bama.

Only way more teams get ranked for Alabama is if the other SEC teams stop being ranked which would lessen the SEC championship game impact. Or do you expect 75%+ of the SEC to be ranked regardless of losses?

I do think SEC get more benefit of the doubt on losses than other conferences. the bottom half of the conference isn't going to get the benefit but the middle and top will.

That's the thing. The top and middle play on the other side of the conference, are already ranked, and aren't playing 'Bama this year.
