An offensive player who may surprise fans? Martinez picks frosh TE Cethan Carter. "He can run and catch. You'll see him in the first game."

QB Martinez on frosh TE Cethan Carter: "He's maybe dropped 1 or 2 passes...But I've seen him catch passes in traffic and go up for passes."

Martinez says Cethan Carter will play "in the first game."

Edit: HuskerShark beat me to it.

Taylor Martinez says #Huskers have handle on turnover issue. "I don't think we've fumbled the ball yet," he said. None? "Maybe 1 or 2..."
2 1/2 weeks of practice and maybe only 1 or 2 fumbles. I can live with that.
So many of Martinez's turnovers have come from the result of trying to do too much. I know the coaches have preached to him to "not try and score a TD every play", so hopefully the practices will carry into the regular season.
A fair number of them come from being hit from behind in the pocket. The tackle play needs to get better in pass pro to keep him from getting hit on the blindside
I agree that there were a few being hit from the blind side, and those aren't entirely TMart's fault. Overall ball security would be great. If NU can find a punt returner who can simply catch the ball, that will reduce automatically reduce the turnovers. That is the type of play that shouldn't happen at all, and it happened a handful of times last year.

Taylor sharpened up his interview skills dramatically since his freshman year. Not perfect, but much better, which will be a positive if he gets some national pub this year.

I'll agree that Taylor sounded better in his interview. Seems a lot more comfortable this season.

I have heard that a lot recently. I know Taylor wasn't always smooth behind the mic, but I think people were too critical of that when he was younger. Not everyone is going to be a great public speaker. I am not saying you are being super critical, it's just something the fans in general have been critical of TMart.

I was never critical of him, it doesn't really effect me if these kids are good or bad in front of the mic. Hell, if anything i just laughed, because he was not ready what so ever to be in front of anyone his freshman year, and im sure it didnt help with the press in his face at all times trying to get any little quote out of his mouth when he was vulnerable. I think majority of people just cringed when he was asked a tough question because we didnt want him to say anything to stupid.

Jack wagon.

@michaelbruntz: Bo Pelini said DE Walker Ashburn will be put on a medical scholarship due to multiple concussions.

Another scholly open. Jay Guy will also graduate in Dec, don't expect him back.
Two more open schollys.
Walker will still count this year because he missed a July 1st deadline. He'll go medical for next season. So open scholly for the recruiting class, not an open scholly for a walk-on...but I think there's like 6-8 of those sitting out there anyway.
