Know the Foe: Brett Smith

What evidence do you have to show that Smith is a good QB, zoogies? This is twice you've come into this conversation telling Husker fans their evaluation of Smith isn't correct. What do the numbers really show?
I think you're reading something that isn't there.

Smith may indeed be mediocre at best, or maybe he has some above average qualities despite playing on a poor team.
Granted I have no idea how good Smith really is.
Although I guess, purely on the surface, his 2012 numbers are pretty good. So it's actually twice in this thread that Husker fans have attempted to use stats to try to dismiss them. I don't find those arguments compelling, and I'm pointing that out in response.

I'm reading you telling us that the stats don't support the argument when they do. And clearly so. So where are you getting the idea that these posts showing the fact that Smith isn't as impressive as Wyoming Fan says are wrong? I await your response.

I'm reading you telling us that the stats don't support the argument when they do. And clearly so.
That's where we disagree. The effort in pulling up all those numbers was impressive, to be sure. That doesn't mean the conclusions drawn were correct. The argument those numbers support is literally that Wyoming doesn't have a good offense.

Again..........................that's probably true. We're talking about the 72nd ranked offense in the country last year for the 4-8 powerhouse known as the 2012 Wyoming Cowboys. That doesn't say much about Smith, who *could* be a very talented player that is all they have.

I hope he's as good as they say. It's always fun to play against small time schools that feature promising players. Maybe he'll be a guy like Nate Davis, who went on to play QB for the 49ers but had numbers I'm sure you could tear apart while at Ball State. Or maybe he won't. I vaguely him playing with admirable pluck in the 2011 game, so if he's come into his own in the years since, good for him.

In the absence of any kind of rebuttal other than "I hope" and "Maybe" and "vaguely remember" I think we're done here. Good for you that you're so encouraging to the opponent. You're a good man.

Smith does appear to be a quite good QB. But his team... obviously... cannot compete with NU on any level. So... give props where props are due --- Smith is a pretty good (at the very least) and perhaps a quite good college QB on a team that will be over matched in most (if not every) area on Saturday. He likely will have some modest measure of success against NU on Saturday... but in the end... NU wins big. Likely very big.

I haven't wanted to put a quarterback in the Graveyard so bad since Blaine Gabbert.
You sir, are a bonified a$$. Wishing injury on anyone is the lowest sort of scumbaggery there is. How about we play the game, no injuries and we continue on with our respective seasons? A win by either team will not change world history in one iota, it's just a damn football game. To suggest that your team hurt someone on my team only because we Wyoming fans are not taking all your arrogant sh#t is despicable. Go get an f'n life dirt bag.

Nope, nope, nope. Landlord's "Quarterback Graveyard" is simply a list of quarterbacks who've had statistically poor games against Bo's defense. It has nothing at all to do with injuries.

You have no frame of reference here, Donny.

Smith had very good numbers in 2012. The argument to dismiss those numbers amount to 'He didn't play against good defenses' and 'Wyoming's offense wasn't very good.' It's Wyoming! What do you expect?

I've said all this before. You may disagree. Whatever, really. It's not that important. Again, I don't find the argument compelling. I think that's a reasonable position. Good numbers on a poor team don't indicate greatness, but they don't rule it out conclusively, on their own. The numbers aren't as telling as you'd like them to be here. That's my position.

Please show Brett Smith's "very good numbers in 2012." Thank you.

OK, if you say so. The statement on its face is inflamatory, no?

No, it's not. Landlord has been doing the "QB Graveyard" for 3 years now. We all know what he meant.

If you didn't know Landlord, I can see how you'd take that statement to mean he's wishing ill on Brett Smith. We've had the benefit of knowing him for a few years and know specifically the thread he's referencing. Here's a link:

And it's been discussed in a couple threads for the past couple days regarding Brett "The Almighty" Smith

With the umpteen dozen threads here it's pretty easy to miss that one, and not to know what Landlord's referring to. No harm, no foul.
