OK.. I am in an argument with a coworker. Both of us were extremely critical of Rodriguez last year especially late in the year.

However, we heard good things about him in fall camp. The guy I am in an argument with has a problem where when he gets down on a player, he absolutely will not ever see (in his eyes) that player improving or doing anything good.

Last night, I rewatched the first half and I watched him on most plays. I thought he played well. I didn't see him allow any defenders past him in pass pro and I thought his run blocking was decent when they went his direction. However, when I got to work (as expected) this guy I work with went off about how pathetically horrible he played.

So, what is your verdict in his game? Did you see improvement?

I don't recall hearing his name all game, which is usually pretty good for offensive linemen. No penalties, no blown pass pro, nothing like that.

Did he play? I don't remember him either, but I also don't follow the OL very closely unless they're playing particularly well or poorly.

We ran the ball really well, so I would say the entire online played alright. Besides the 4th and short play, no idea WTH happened there.

Remind your friend about the turnaround that Larry Asante had from his junior to senior years. Night and day.

This guy is beyond help in this area. This is why I try to not get into many deep discussions with him on the team. But, this one struck me as worth the battle for some reason.

He didn't play bad but I didn't think he was really good either. I didn't really see any blocks he totally missed but every time I looked he was standing there blocking nobody. At the very least, he didn't finish any blocks that I saw.

That is a problem that Garrison had with the whole line. Hopefully that is pointed out to them and they come out with a different attitude this week.

This team needs to come out and dominate this weekend.

Garrison mentioned something about the O-line blocking:

>> The offensive line struggled at times to finish blocks, offensive line coach John Garrison said. He didn’t see the leg drive at the end of plays. He saw his linemen just leaning on Cowboy players, which allowed some of the to slip off. That’s not what he’s looking for, and hence “the film room was very quiet on Monday when NU reviewed its film.

“You feel like a guy’s blocked, and your leg drive and stops moving,” Garrison said. “You’ve got to keep your feet moving. I just saw a lot of guys just stopped their legs. Not finishing their blocks. That was a little disheartening.”

Garrison said last Wednesday’s practice wasn’t great, and featured some of these same errors. They carried over to the game.

“At times it was really good and at times it was not so good,” Garrison said. “We’re talking about how good we want to be. Talk’s talk. It’s time start executing and be a consistent group. Because that’s who we can be.” http://sports.omaha.com/2013/09/02/practice-report-sept-2-garrison-wants-more-from-ol/#.UiYHHnoo7Dc

Try to get some of his high school film and not the highlight reel. He's been doing this as long as I can remember. In high school, he liked to take a lot of plays off. Due to a power outage, I didn't get to see very much of the game and didn't get most of it recorded. Maybe the lightswitch is finally coming on for him? I hope so because he has the build to be dominating.

This. He has always been very lazy.

Watch him at the 0:46 point. Beat pretty bad. If that play had been a 15 yard sack everyone would be going apesh#t, calling for his head. But then on Imani's double spin run (1:50) he did a solid job of blocking down on the DT.

Mixed results I'd say. Rodriguez isn't the most mobile O-lineman we've had. Serviceable. But not close to Pipeline caliber.

Qvale and Moudy seemed to get a lot more playing time than Rodriguez and Cotton. As I suspected, Sirles played a lot of RT while Qvale was at LT. I couldn't really tell who was playing Center a lot of the time.

From what I noticed, Rodriguez's footwork is just not very good. I can't imagine the coaches trusting him to pass block much this season.

A lot of the problem on that .46 mark is because of the bad snap. Martinez ended up way deeper than he normally would have which caused it to be harder for the tackle to keep his block. Same thing happened on the other side.
