Bo usually loses when his defense gives up more than 200 yds rushing.

I was listening to Unsportsmanlike Conduct when they were talking about Bo Pelini's defense against the run and against the pass. They mentioned that overall Pelini has had a very good to decent pass defense, but when he loses a game 90% of the time its because the defense was unable to stop the run. I researched into it and sure enough most of the games in which Bo has lost, the opponents rushing total for the game was over 200 yds. Only in a few instances was the rushing total under 200 in a loss.

I wanted to look into it further to see if Bo has always had trouble with stopping the run in a loss. Even if it wasn't with the Huskers (Sooners and LSU).

It's not really a secret. In 2010 if you wanted to gain yards on our defense you'd run right at them.

Bo has been on the phone with a lot of coaches this past winter time asking for ideas on how to stop the mobile QB and the zone read option.

We just might see our defense go from wrinkle-less in the S. Miss game to looking like Knapp against UCLA

A lot of our offense is based on Pelini giving insight to Beck on what offensively causes a defensive coordinator nightmares.

Knapp defense!! Boom!!

We know how to stop the run and the mobile quarterback - have Ndamukong Suh.

Jokes aside, I'd wager any team that gives up 200 yards rushing in a game likely loses that game. That doesn't change the fact that it's an issue for us and we need to fix it, but I'm sure this is true for any team.

Just from reading the title of this post, are there really a lot of teams that will win if they give up 200 yds rushing??

Curious if anyone is interested enough to pull up ypc and yards for all of Bo's losses. Put some numbers to the claims.

Funny you mention this, I looked this up the other day.

Ucla 344/6.1

Ohio State 371/7.7

Wiscy 539/10.8

UGA 162/4.2 Though Murray threw for 427 yards and a whopping 5 TDs.

For kicks, Wyoming 219/7.3

I saw another board an interesting take from Benning ref Wyoming. To paraphrase, he said that after watching the game and presser he thinks things are "fixable". Bo called a VERY plain and generic D with little complexity. Benning surmises it was done in order to put some things on film in order to see who "got" certain schemes, alignments and calls and who didn't. Put the guys in a position and have them "figure" things out themselves. This will allow Bo to move forward with the guys who "got" it and fix the issues that were observed as it relates to wrong call, communication, alignment etc.... Said we have the speed and athleticism and sees a simplifying of the D moving forward and scrapping the 2 gap, allowing guys to go hat on hat. Also said the D we see in a few weeks will not be remote to what we saw against Wyoming.

Again, this was paraphrased and I did not listen to the show. Makes sense if true. BUT, I have heard a lot of the stuff before and am leery.
